Whole squid jjamppong set, 18-team Sunday wait: Milyang Dol Jjamppong

In short

Milyang Dol Jjamppong is a Chinese restaurant on Baekmin-ro in Milyang, Gyeongnam, specialising in stone-plate jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and jjajang noodles. A Sunday lunch booking through the Tabling app showed 18 teams ahead and took about 30 minutes, and the order was the 37,000-won set for two — dol jjamppong plus 100% handmade pork soup — with whole squid added at heat level 2. With its saucy stir-fried jjamppong flavour, scorched rice on the stone plate and free rice from the self-serve bar, Milyang Dol Jjamppong is worth the weekend wait.

Today I've got an honest review of Milyang Dol Jjamppong, a well-known spot near Yeongnamnu in Milyang! I'd heard of dol jjajang (stone-plate black bean noodles) before, but dol jjamppong was new to me — so I decided our first meal of the Milyang trip would be dol jjamppong just to find out what it was 🙌🏻 We went on a Sunday and there was quite a wait. But a long wait means you can trust the food, right??? Here's my honest review of Milyang Dol Jjamppong, a hot spot in Milyang!

How long is the Sunday wait at Milyang Dol Jjamppong?

A tableting reservation is essential for weekend lunch at Milyang Dol Jjamppong. We booked at 12:30pm on a Sunday and there were already 18 teams ahead of us — we got seated around 1pm, after about a 30-minute wait.

Here's the exterior of Milyang Dol Jjamppong! Quite a lot of people were already waiting. It was convenient that we'd already put in our reservation before we arrived. Since tableting lets you book ahead and weekend lunches tend to have a decent wait, I'd recommend reserving through tableting in advance.

Inside Milyang Dol Jjamppong: the self-serve bar and free rice

The interior of Milyang Dol Jjamppong was quite large, but every seat was taken when we walked in. They say the food isn't pre-made, so it does take some time!

Sign explaining that cooking takes time

Today it's dol jjamppong, next week dol jjajang — the order doesn't matter!

That sign is so clever haha. We seriously debated between dol jjamppong and dol jjajang too. Both looked so good!

Area with a baby-food microwave and kids' chairs

Rice is free at Milyang Dol Jjamppong! They also have a microwave dedicated to baby food, kids' chairs, and more, which seemed really convenient — especially handy for anyone dining with young kids. As a mom-to-be, these details naturally catch my eye now, haha!

You can also grab pickled radish and green onion kimchi from the self-serve bar! The green onion kimchi only comes as a default side with dol jjajang, not with dol jjamppong — so if you order dol jjamppong and want green onion kimchi, help yourself at the self-serve bar! (It's seriously delicious 🤤)

How the heat level 2 dol jjamppong and pork soup set tasted

In short, Milyang Dol Jjamppong's dol jjamppong tasted like stir-fried jjamppong with a soup-soaked base. We ordered heat level 2, and it was about as spicy as Shin Ramyeon — just right.

A steaming bowl of dol jjamppong on the stone plate

The dol jjamppong arrived steaming and looking delicious! Honestly, dol jjamppong was a dish I'd never heard of, so I was curious — and if I had to describe it in one line, it's stir-fried jjamppong with a soup-soaked base!

Whole squid piled on the dol jjamppong

The whole squid was plump and so tasty too! We ordered heat level 2, and it was about as spicy as Shin Ramyeon — just right! Too spicy for babies, but just right for adults ~!

100% handmade pork soup served with the set

And the handmade pork soup that came with the set! It tasted exactly like a cross between pork cutlet and sweet-and-sour pork. Crispy and something babies would love ~! Of course, I have a baby's palate too and loved it. They gave a separate pork-cutlet sauce for dipping, which was delicious.

Mixing bean sprouts and noodles in the dol jjamppong

Following the method they suggested, let's cook the bean sprouts in the hot steam first and eat the noodles first!! I love stir-fried jjamppong, so this tasted just right to me — so good!

Scraping the scorched rice from the bottom of the stone plate

And scraping up the scorched rice stuck at the bottom, scooping in some rice, and mixing it into the remaining soup made it so satisfying with that soup-soaked base. My husband, who loves this kind of porridge-like style, really loved it too.

Finishing with rice mixed into the leftover soup

The free ade review event and a yogurt drink to finish

Milyang Dol Jjamppong also has a review-service ade gift event, so keep this in mind!! You can choose between green grape ade or pomegranate ade — we had the green grape ade, and it was so good, so definitely take part 🙌🏻 They also sell the ade separately besides the gift event!!

Right before you head out, there's yogurt too ~! This is the true K-dessert!!! Even the ending is perfect! Besides yogurt, you can also help yourself to coffee and tea, so keep that in mind.

Is Milyang Dol Jjamppong worth the wait?

Today I wrote up my review of Milyang Dol Jjamppong, a well-known spot near Yeongnamnu in Milyang! It's stir-fried jjamppong, but you can eat it warm the whole time, and after finishing the noodles you can mix in rice at the end and eat it like porridge — personally I enjoyed it so much I can confidently recommend it!! If you're looking for a good place to eat near Yeongnamnu in Milyang, I recommend Milyang Dol Jjamppong ~!
