Self-serve dessert bar at a Milyang Chinese restaurant: Milyang Dol
In short
Milyang Dol Jjamppong is a Chinese restaurant on Baekmin-ro in Milyang, near Milyang City Hall and Yeongnamnu, specializing in stone-plate jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and stone-plate jjajangmyeon. On a trip through Milyang, the writer and her husband ordered the stone-plate jjamppong with homemade donttang (crispy fried pork) set for 37,000 won, and liked how the broth cooked down on the hot stone plate into a rich, stir-fried jjamppong flavor next to the crunchy pork. With a self-serve side dish and rice bar plus coffee and yogurt after the meal, Milyang Dol Jjamppong is an easy stop to work into a Milyang sightseeing route.

There was one place I really wanted to try while planning a trip to Milyang. My husband and I went to Milyang Dol Jjamppong near Yeongnamnu and had the stone-plate jjamppong with the donttang set. It's been featured on TV, so I had high expectations even before visiting — and after eating there, I understood why people line up for it. This is another place I'd love to revisit, after the restaurant we loved near Milyang City Hall!

Inside Milyang Dol Jjamppong: atmosphere and seating

This Milyang City Hall favorite was featured on KBS 2TV's 'Vivid Information.' It reportedly became even more well-known after being introduced as a spot for stone-plate jjamppong and stone-plate jjajangmyeon. Located near Milyang City Hall and Yeongnamnu, it was a convenient stop for a meal during our trip.
If the lot in front fills up, there's a public parking lot next to the store and another one 50m away. Being a TV-featured spot, it definitely had the buzzing atmosphere of a popular restaurant.

Everything is cooked to order, so please note it may take a bit of time.

There were too many people for me to photograph all the seating, but there's group seating too, and the restaurant is spacious with plenty of tables, so we didn't have to wait long.
Today it's stone-plate jjamppong, next time it's stone-plate jjajangmyeon — the order doesn't matter!
Self-serve side dishes, rice and after-meal dessert bar
At Milyang Dol Jjamppong, you can refill side dishes at the self-serve bar and enjoy generous rice servings for free.

Mixing rice into the jjamppong or jjajang broth is pure bliss.

They had disposable aprons and baby chairs on hand, plus post-meal coffee, tea, yogurt, and candy — the owner really has great attention to detail.

This Milyang City Hall favorite even nails the little dessert touches — if you're looking for a good restaurant near Yeongnamnu, give it a try.

We ordered the stone-plate jjamppong with the donttang set. Milyang Dol Jjamppong's signature is serving the jjamppong on a hot stone plate.

Ordering the stone-plate jjamppong and homemade donttang set
The basic side dishes were onion and pickled radish.

We ordered the stone-plate jjamppong + donttang set. We picked this combo so we could try the homemade donttang instead of regular sweet-and-sour pork.

Stone-plate jjamppong for two: how the broth changes
The stone-plate jjamppong (2 people) arrived on a hot stone plate with a shallow broth, noodles, and vegetables. Since it's served on a hot stone plate, it stayed warm until the very end, and it looked delicious still bubbling away on the table.

Because the stone plate holds heat for a long time, the jjamppong stayed warm throughout the meal. Mix the bean sprouts in with the noodles as you eat.
The first bite already had deep umami. The broth had that proper smoky wok-hei flavor, and the fresh taste of the seafood was really delicious.

It was fun how the flavor kept shifting a bit as time passed.

We started off enjoying it as a jjamppong with plenty of broth, and as the stone plate's heat gradually reduced it, the flavor got richer, almost like a stir-fried jjamppong.
Homemade donttang (crispy fried pork)
The donttang we ordered alongside the jjamppong was more delicious than we expected.

The donttang had a crispy, nutty texture that was great to snack on in between bites. They poured the sauce on right before serving, so it stayed crisp and delicious instead of going soggy.

Alternating between the warm jjamppong broth and the crispy donttang worked really well together. My husband was glad we ordered the stone-plate jjamppong and donttang, and ate it happily.

Dipping it in the tonkatsu sauce was also delicious. After finishing the noodles, you can scrape up the crispy rice crust stuck to the bottom.
There was a nutty rice crust at the bottom, which set this apart from the jjamppong you'd get at a typical Chinese restaurant. The portion was plenty for two, and you can refill rice as much as you want, so it was a really filling meal.
Is Milyang Dol Jjamppong worth a stop? Final thoughts
Milyang Dol Jjamppong, a Milyang City Hall favorite — my husband and I visited during our Milyang trip and really enjoyed the meal. The spicy, smoky stone-plate jjamppong paired with the crispy donttang was so satisfying. If you're looking for a restaurant worth waiting in line for during your Milyang trip, give Milyang Dol Jjamppong a try! It's near Milyang City Hall and Yeongnamnu, so it's easy to fit into your travel route and convenient for exploring the area afterward.
