Family dinner with spicy braised short ribs and yukkal-myeon in Wonju

In short

Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom is a 24-hour yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) restaurant in Dangye-dong, Wonju, Gangwon. Two adults and a child visited at an early 5 p.m. dinner and tried the spicy braised beef short ribs, yukkal-myeon (knife-cut noodles in beef soup), and a kids' seolleongtang, with the ribs falling right off the bone and the beef-bone-based yukkal-myeon the most memorable dish of the night. With a large private parking lot and kids' tableware on hand, it was an easy pick for family dining.

I was trying to decide what to eat on the weekend and spicy braised beef short ribs popped into my head, so off I went to Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom!

The scene at 5 p.m. — is it okay to bring kids?

We showed up around an early 5 p.m. and lots of people were already eating. The restaurant was clean with plenty of table space, and they had a kids' menu and kids' tableware ready, which made it great for a family dinner. The owner was friendly too, so it was a comfortable place to eat at Yukdaejang.

Two adults, one child — what we ordered and what it cost

There were two adults and one child in our group, and

  • ✔️ Spicy braised short ribs — ₩50,000, medium-spicy level
  • ✔️ Yukkal-myeon — ₩12,000
  • ✔️ Kids' seolleongtang — ₩6,500

That's what we ordered!

Seokbakji radish kimchi taken from the self-serve bar

You just help yourself to the side dishes at the self-serve bar — the seokbakji (diced radish kimchi) was so good I refilled it several times ☺️

Baby spoon provided for the child

They brought over a baby spoon without us even asking 💕

How spicy is the medium-spicy braised short ribs?

A bit later the braised short ribs arrived! The medium-spicy level was just a touch milder than Shin Ramyun, and the spicy-sweet sauce was loaded with plenty of beef short ribs.

With braised short ribs, the key thing is whether the meat is tender, right? The meat at Yukdaejang fell right off the bone, soft and tender with no gamey smell — really delicious.

Dipping it with chives into wasabi soy sauce was so good 🫶 If you like spicy food, go for spice level 2!

The noodle add-in that came with it went straight in too 👏👏

We scooped up every last vegetable too!

The dish that stuck with me most: yukkal-myeon

And then there was yukkal-myeon, which my husband wanted to try! I had some too, and the deep, spicy yukgaejang broth over a heavy beef-bone base was genuinely delicious.

It went really well with the knife-cut noodles and it was the most memorable dish of the day. My husband inhaled his whole bowl 🫣 You could really taste the care that went into it! Everyone should try the yukkal-myeon ❣️

How generous is the kids' seolleongtang portion?

The kids' seolleongtang came with plenty of meat and milky broth, and it had genuinely deep flavor. The portion was big, so families with two kids could probably order one and split it!

Our little princess also polished off a whole bowl of rice that day 🥰

Wrap-up

True to their claim of simmering it with plenty of green onion and brisket, every dish at Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom carried deep flavor and real care. Since it's open 24 hours, it's a solid option late at night too, and it works well both for solo diners and family outings — a yukgaejang restaurant near Wonju City Hall worth knowing ❣️ We're planning to go back for the yukgaejang jeongol (hot pot) next time 👍
