Today I went back to this spot in Nampo-dong where you can enjoy hotpot and lamb skewers together🔥 But actually this wasn't my first visit — I'd been exactly 3 weeks ago, and here I am again today🤣

If it had just been okay the first time, coming back in such a short window wouldn't be easy, right?! For someone like me who likes both lamb skewers and hotpot, being able to eat both at once was a pretty big plus👍 If you like picking and choosing different things, this is worth keeping in mind when searching for Nampo-dong restaurants for hotpot!

Interior and seating: does the smoke cling to your clothes?

The Sacheon Hwogwa Yangkkochi Nampo Branch space was bigger and cleaner than I expected, with a grill and overhead ventilation at every table. Once you're inside, there's a long row of tables. Overall the space felt roomier than I imagined, and the tables weren't cramped together, which I liked👌

When you go for lamb skewers, you might worry a bit about smoke getting into your clothes,,, but the ventilation right above each table sucks the smoke up, so it was more comfortable than expected🔥 There's also a long self-bar set up on one side where you grab whatever ingredients you want yourself! The restrooms are separated by gender inside the restaurant too, so no need to step outside mid-meal🚻

Hotpot + lamb skewer buffet at 24,900 won: prices and time limit

When I visited, prices at Sacheon Hwogwa Yangkkochi Nampo Branch were: combo ₩24,900, skewers only ₩23,900, hotpot only ₩21,900, children ₩9,900, teens ₩15,900! There's also a separate solo menu for those dining alone👀

But personally, if you've made it this far, I recommend the hotpot + skewer combo!! The price difference isn't big, and you can eat skewers, switch to hotpot, then grab another skewer to grill🔥 — it's definitely less monotonous this way.

The dining time limit is 90 minutes, or 120 minutes if you're eating and drinking! And since it's all-you-can-eat, there's a leftover charge if you grab too much food and don't finish it, so it's best to take small portions multiple times rather than piling your plate high from the start👍

Lamb skewer varieties and how they grill at the table

The skewer corner had a wide variety — plain lamb skewers, seasoned lamb skewers, beef skewers, pork belly, and more! There were also garlic and king oyster mushroom skewers, so there was fun in picking and choosing😆

Once you put them on the grill, the skewers rotate on their own as they cook, and the sizzling smell over charcoal was genuinely great🔥 A well-grilled lamb skewer dipped in cumin powder (jjeoran) is a combination that's hard to make bad haha

What's on the hotpot self-bar?

The hotpot self-bar has a wide variety of ingredients, from seafood like shrimp, blue crab, and squid to tofu, dried tofu sheets, fried tofu, sausage, and potatoes. There are also vegetables like bok choy, napa cabbage, bean sprouts, and mushrooms, plus glass noodles (bunmoja), dangmyeon noodles, and other noodle types — just fill your bowl however you like🥘 There are quite a lot of ingredient types, so it's better to take small portions multiple times rather than loading up all at once haha

Sauce bar combinations worth mixing

The sauce bar has peanut sauce, minced garlic, scallions, cilantro, chili oil, soy sauce, and more. There are instructions on how to mix sauces, which is handy for first-timers👌 My favorite was peanut sauce with a bit of minced garlic and chili oil😋 And for the lamb skewers, dipping generously in cumin powder is the way to go!🔥

Thin shabu-shabu meat is on the bar too 🥩

On the hotpot self-bar side, there was also thin sliced meat set aside separately, meant to be cooked shabu-shabu style! Put in vegetables, mushrooms, and dried tofu first, then take as much meat as you'll eat and briefly cook it in the broth🔥 It's thin so it cooks fast and soaks up the hotpot broth well, and it went great alongside the vegetables😋 Since it's all-you-can-eat, being able to grab more if you run out is another plus!

Why the writer returned to Sacheon Hwogwa Yangkkochi after three weeks

Honestly, the best proof of how satisfied I was with this place is that I came back today, just 3 weeks after my first visit. At a dedicated lamb skewer place you only end up eating skewers, and at a hotpot place you mainly eat hotpot.😆

But at Sacheon Hwogwa Yangkkochi Nampo Branch, you can grill a few skewers 🍢, then add hotpot ingredients 🥘, then grab more skewers to grill — going back and forth like this definitely feels less monotonous than sticking to just one menu.

It's also great that you can pick as much as you want from meat, seafood, vegetables, and noodles👍 This seems especially convenient for big eaters or for groups with slightly different tastes when it comes to choosing what to eat!

Finishing with soft-serve ice cream 🍦

I thought that was it after eating myself full, but there's a soft-serve machine on one side of the restaurant! Cones are set up right next to it, so you dispense your own ice cream😆 I tried to shape it nicely for the photo — turned out better than expected, right?!🍦
