Farewell-party lunch at a Namyangju Korean BBQ: 2002 Witch's Arpeggio

In short

2002 Witch's Arpeggio is a creek-view outdoor Korean BBQ restaurant on Surye-ro 661beon-gil in Namyangju, Gyeonggi. The writer came on a weekday afternoon for a friend's farewell party and ordered tomato-jang pork belly, the new tomato-jang kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and pollock roe fried rice cooked in a cauldron, with a staff member torch-finishing the pork belly at the table. If you like tomato-based dishes, the tomato-jang kalguksu at 2002 Witch's Arpeggio is the dish worth remembering.

Today I visited 2002 Witch's Arpeggio, a famous Namyangju BBQ restaurant, for a friend's farewell party after she quit her job! It's already well known as a Namyangju favorite, especially for its tomato-jang pork belly. They just launched a new tomato-jang kalguksu (noodle soup) too, so I rushed over to try it haha. Here's my real, honest review!

I went to this Namyangju favorite on a weekday afternoon! Probably because it was a weekday, I was able to get seated right away with no wait haha.

Creek-view outdoor seats and the spacious indoor dining room

Above all, this place is famous for its outdoor seating with a creek view, so it'd be amazing to visit on a nice day! It's also a great drive-out spot from Seoul, and perfect for eating with parents or family while looking at the creek. Aren't those yellow parasols so cute? Haha, they photograph really well too, which made me happy 💛

Here's the inside of 2002 Witch's Arpeggio! The interior is huge too, so it's great for families or larger groups. And the moment I walked in and saw jars of tomato-jang lined up everywhere, I got even more excited haha — what could tomato-jang pork belly possibly taste like?

The weather was so nice we chose a creek-view outdoor table! You really have to go right now while it's like this. The weather's great and the creek is right there, so just sitting there feels healing. It'd be great in summer paired with the water, and once the weather cools down it'd have a totally different vibe — I think it's worth visiting once each season haha.

What we ordered for the farewell party, plus the side dishes

At 2002 Witch's Arpeggio we ordered two things: tomato-jang pork belly and tomato-jang kalguksu. I even read up on the recommended way to eat the tomato-jang pork belly haha.

And then the side dishes arrived! You guys… I was surprised the side dishes alone were this good. From japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) to tomato kimchi — these are unusual sides you don't usually see at a regular BBQ place, so it was fun trying each one.

What does tomato-jang pork belly taste like?

Then the tomato-jang pork belly arrived..!! The visuals alone were insane. It's the kind of restaurant-worthy look you see on Instagram, but seeing it in person made it look even more delicious haha.

Staff member torch-finishing the tomato-jang pork belly

And a staff member torch-finishes it right at the table! That gives it a smoky char flavor, and since they cook it all for you, you get to enjoy it without any burnt bits — I loved that. At first I was really curious what 'tomato-jang' would even taste like, but the spice level is adjustable, and the savory depth of the tomato-jang combined with a spicy kick actually went surprisingly well with the pork belly! It really paired well — worth the trip out to Namyangju for. Now I get why it's famous for tomato-jang pork belly haha. And my favorite combo was ssammu (pickled radish wrap) + perilla leaf salad + pork belly!! Eating it like that, I felt like I could keep going for three servings.. ♥️

How is the new tomato-jang kalguksu?

And then the tomato-jang kalguksu (noodle soup) I was really looking forward to arrived! I genuinely love tomato-based dishes, so I have to recommend 2002 Witch's Arpeggio's tomato-jang kalguksu without hesitation!!!

Hand-kneaded noodles in red tomato-jang broth

To describe the flavor, it's like a tomato jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) — savory with a subtle tang, which made me think it'd be a great hangover cure too haha. They apparently make the tomato-jang from scratch and hand-knead the noodles themselves! Maybe that's why the noodles were so chewy and paired perfectly with the broth. I was already stuffed from the pork belly, but somehow I kept eating haha. I ended up mixing rice into the broth too — how can this combination work so well?! The tomato-jang pork belly was delicious, but personally the tomato-jang kalguksu is what stuck with me the most! If you love tomato-based dishes, you really have to try it 👍🏻

Finishing with cauldron pollock roe fried rice

And finally, we finished with the Korean national dessert — cauldron pollock roe fried rice! My friends said even the fried rice was amazing and cleaned the whole pan haha. Cooking it in a cauldron naturally creates a scorched rice crust, so we got a crispy finish till the very last bite! I felt like I could burst, but eating the fried rice made the meal feel properly complete haha. If you're looking for a good Namyangju BBQ restaurant, this is worth a visit.

Is 2002 Witch's Arpeggio worth the trip? Final verdict

🙋🏻‍♀️ Overall — the tomato-jang pork belly with perilla leaf is a solid combo, and the tomato-jang kalguksu is a strong recommend! If you want to eat great BBQ in Namyangju while properly enjoying a creek view, this outdoor Namyangju spot is worth a visit haha. Eating outside on a nice day felt like getting good food, fresh air, and a proper reset all at once! In particular, the tomato-jang kalguksu I tried for the first time this visit was way better than expected, and I think I'll order it again next time haha. It's great with family, and also good for a drive-out visit with friends — I'd recommend going on a nice day :) That's the end of my honest review!
