Seolleung Japanese restaurant for hambagu omurice lunch: Gyuen Dang

In short

Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is a Japanese restaurant near Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The order was hambagu (hamburg steak) omurice, striploin gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) and geso-age (fried squid legs), and the best part was grilling the gyukatsu to taste on a mini brazier with melted butter. Gyuen Dang Seolleung is a solid pick when office workers near Seolleung want a different kind of lunch.

Why Gyuen Dang Seolleung works for a Japanese lunch near Seolleung Station

The interior is clean overall with a distinct Japanese feel, haha. The seating is varied too, from single seats to group tables that fit several people!

It seems like a comfortable spot for office workers eating alone at lunch, and also good for visiting with coworkers to order a few dishes and share. You know those days when you're tired of eating the same lunch at work and want something a bit different?! For that, gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) or hambagu omurice — dishes you don't usually have for lunch — seem like a great choice. It looked like a solid pick for office workers near Seolleung Station too!!

Hambagu omurice and striploin gyukatsu grilled on a butter brazier

That day we ordered hambagu omurice, striploin gyukatsu, and geso-age!

First, the hambagu omurice. Soft, moist egg sits on top of the hambagu, so it looked tender just from looking at it. The egg wasn't dry at all — it was moist, and the texture went really well with the hambagu. The hambagu itself had that clean, meaty flavor, and paired with the soft egg it was a great combo!

Such soft, moist egg,,!!

The gyukatsu comes with a mini brazier so you can grill it yourself to your preferred doneness!

The point is you don't have to cook it fully from the start — you can grill it bit by bit to your taste! They also give you butter, so I melted a little on the brazier before grilling the gyukatsu, and the nutty butter aroma really brought the flavor to life.

Crisping up the outside while leaving the inside moist gave it a nice soft texture too.

So much butter aroma! Genuinely delicious.

Geso-age and the review-event okonomiyaki at Gyuen Dang

For a side, we ordered geso-age! It's squid fried up crispy, so it went well alongside the gyukatsu and omurice. The outside was crispy and the squid inside was chewy, making it easy to keep picking at between bites. Overall the food wasn't too heavy or intense, so eating several dishes together didn't feel like a lot.

And the okonomiyaki we got from the review event! Nice to have something light after the meal, haha. The portion is seriously huge!

There's even floss available near the entrance! Such a thoughtful touch,,!
