Songpa Japanese restaurant for steak pot rice: Gome Mui

In short

Gome Mui is a Japanese restaurant in Songpa, Seoul, serving pot rice and tonkatsu. On a third visit, we shared the ₩21,900 steak pot rice and tonkatsu set and ₩13,000 whole-mozzarella cheese cutlet with my child. Gome Mui is a place I would happily revisit for a family meal or a date with my child.

Meal at Gome Mui in Munjeong Terra Tower

A hearty lunch or dinner at Munjeong Terra Tower! This is the delicious combination of pot rice and tonkatsu, and it is my third visit because my child loves it too. Here is my weekend-lunch review of Gome Mui, a Terra Tower favorite that always satisfies.

Gome Mui restaurant in Munjeong Terra Tower

Gome Mui (고메무이), at G115 in Munjeong Terra Tower, is a Japanese restaurant serving crowd-pleasers such as tonkatsu, pot rice, and mazemen soba. It stays open even on weekends, when many restaurants in this office-focused area close, so it is great for a delicious family lunch. Its premium pot rice is made with seasonal ingredients! I have had it several times, and I think it is tastier than many dedicated pot-rice places. It pairs surprisingly well with tonkatsu.

They even have camping chairs ready for waiting comfortably when there is a line.

Gome Mui says its name combines gome (米), the Japanese word for rice, with mui (無二), meaning one and only—representing a singular, precious flavor in the world.

Interior seating at Gome Mui

Inside, from counter seats to a table for six

The interior has a polished, upscale feel: an elegant wood-accented space with a fairly generous scale from the entrance all the way inside. There are solo seats and counter seats by the window, plus a large table near the entrance for up to six people. The high ceiling and lighting are lovely too. The tables for two and four are neat as well. Since it was the weekend, lots of families were there for lunch. I imagine it is packed with office workers on weekdays too.

Gome Mui is serious about fermentation, with sauces featuring soy-sauce nuruk, rice nuruk, and nuruk salt. It is a philosophy that adds delicacy to food and value to health.

Order of steak pot rice and cheese cutlet

I truly recommend Gome Mui’s pot rice and tonkatsu combination—it is just so good. A long-overdue one-on-one date with my middle-schooler.

How to eat the steak pot rice and tonkatsu set

This is the steak pot rice and tonkatsu set. The tonkatsu takes care of any feeling that pot rice alone might not be quite enough, so I also recommend it as a solo meal.

How to eat steak pot rice

A cute card explaining how to eat the steak pot rice sits right on top, so be sure to read it before digging in.

  • Mix the rice, egg yolk, and steak evenly, then serve it into a bowl.
  • Pour hot water into the pot to make nurungji (crispy scorched rice).
  • Add the accompanying sauce little by little and mix it in as you eat.

Seed jeotgal (salted seafood), pollock roe, mustard-green pickles, and pickled peppers come alongside it, and eating them with the pot rice is such a kick!

The steak pot rice is a filling, wholesome meal of premium wagyu, house sauce, egg, and butter. So many ingredients are arranged neatly and with care on top! The wagyu steak looked incredibly tender!

The reason I love Gome Mui’s pot rice is that so many restaurants calling themselves pot-rice specialists are really only imitating it. But Gome Mui pays attention to the ingredients, the overall composition, and the balance of flavor and aroma. It is premium pot rice where you can taste the care, and I really love that.

Pot rice with butter and egg

Pop the egg! Mix it briskly with the butter, and that nutty aroma rushes up—my mouth was watering! Add a little of the sweet steak sauce at a time, and you get sweet, tender wagyu. My child said it was delicious and ate so well. Even the buttery flavor was perfect!

Pour the hot water from the thermos they provide into the pot rice and finish it off properly with nurungji! It was beautifully clean right through the last bite.

Thick loin cutlet

My child’s favorite: whole-mozzarella cheese cutlet

The thick loin cutlet included with the set was also very tender. Definitely approved as a great tonkatsu spot! It goes so well with the pot rice.

This is the whole-mozzarella cheese cutlet. It comes as a full meal with rice and soup. My child always loves cheese cutlet, so this is the favorite menu item!

Whole-mozzarella cheese cutlet set meal

This cute cheese cutlet is packed full of whole mozzarella inside the pork loin. The joy of cheese cutlet is the cheese pull: the better the cheese, the better it stretches, and you can enjoy soft cheese right to the end even as it cools.

It was delicious and fun because it would not break—haha. Such a satisfying whole-mozzarella cheese-cutlet meal. My middle-schooler expertly picked between the pot rice and cheese cutlet and ate every bit so well; watching made me even happier!

Tonkatsu, everyone’s beloved food, is always love! Gome Mui, a Munjeong Terra Tower favorite where crowd-pleasing tonkatsu meets premium pot rice, was impressive! I recommend it for family meals, dates, and meals with children. This was already my third visit..... I am going again lol.
