Songpa Chinese restaurant with sundubu jjamppong rice: Jjampponggwan

On my day off, my mom, my boyfriend, and I had been planning since last week to have dinner at Jjampponggwan in Wirye (such an extreme J planner move) 🚶♀️ I counted, and this was already our fifth visit 🤭 (At least five that I remember..) I’ve been coming here since it opened and have left reviews now and then, so when I think of great Chinese food in Wirye, this is the very first place that comes to mind!

I order delivery from home a lot too, haha. It’s my favorite Chinese restaurant in Wirye ><

Location and parking in front of Wirye Transit Mall

It’s right in front of the crosswalk by Wirye Transit Mall, so it’s really easy to find. Two hours in the Alleyway Wirye underground parking garage is plenty 🅿️ The weather was nice today, so we walked.

An interior for solo diners through groups of three

There are seats that are great for dining alone, and the three of us could sit comfortably too. We came around 5:30 p.m., and customers kept coming in even during dinner time.

Help yourself to danmuji (pickled yellow radish) and onions at the self-serve corner~ And you can get as much rice as you want too, haha. Add rice to your jjamppong broth and it disappears in no time!

One thing I love.. You can have a drink to cleanse your palate after the meal, haha.

Choosing from the menu and ordering at the table

True to its name, Jjampponggwan has so many jjamppong options, right? Haha.

The new stone-plate gan-jjamppong (stir-fried jjamppong) looks delicious. I think I have to get this next time!!

Ordering is easy—you just do it at your table. All the menu items and photos are there, so it’s easy to choose!

Sundubu jjamppong rice, chashu jjamppong, and crab fried rice

Once again, I debated for ages between mala jjamppong and sundubu jjamppong rice, but in the end it was sundubu jjamppong rice again, haha. You can choose the heat level, and I always get level 1!! My friend Jinseon gets level 2.

My mom always gets seafood tray jjajangmyeon, but today she chose crab fried rice! My boyfriend ordered chashu jjamppong today. He went with the standard spice level.

Chashu jjamppong ₩13,000

It has a bit of a Japanese ramen feel too, right?? It comes with extra chashu and mung bean sprouts. My boyfriend’s chashu jjamppong was the standard spice level, but the broth was still super rich with a lightly smoky wok flavor. It had plenty of seafood and meat, and he said it tasted great—he finished it happily!

He says the chashu was tender, generously sized, and the tastiest part, so it really stuck in his memory, haha.

Crab fried rice ₩10,000

My mom, who only ever had seafood tray jjajangmyeon, tried the crab fried rice! There was quite a lot of crab meat, and it was tastier than ordinary Chinese-style fried rice because of that!

Sometimes jjajang sauce can be underseasoned, but she said this one was seasoned just right and delicious 👍

Fried rice naturally comes with jjamppong broth too!

Sundubu jjamppong rice ₩12,000

For someone like me who prefers rice to noodles, this is truly the perfect menu item 😌 You can adjust the heat level step by step, so it’s convenient to match how you’re feeling that day 👌

A heat-level tip 🌶️ For first-timers, I recommend starting at level 1. It gets hotter than you might expect 😅 If noodles don’t sit well with you, order a jjamppong rice dish like I do; the unlimited rice refills make it really filling.

They really don’t skimp on the scallops and mussels, and there’s more meat than you’d expect too 🦪 Is this seafood jjamppong,, or meat jjamppong~~ There are glass noodles in the jjamppong rice too..~~ Mixing rice into the broth is unbeatable for a hangover cure! 😋 My friends and I even came here for hangover food the day after a pork feast at my place! Haha.

A hot meal, then a dessert drink

Eating at the restaurant, it’s definitely hotter and tastier..🔥 I think I’ll keep coming here whenever I’m craving great Chinese food in Wirye..!! Next time, I’m really going to try the mala jjamppong!
