Jeongja-dong, Suwon date café with warm salt bread: Café Meomureum

Today I'm introducing Café Meomureum, a Jeongja-dong spot I visited with my boyfriend for a weekend date café. I'm such a salt bread person that if a café has salt bread on the menu, I'm ordering it no matter what — and somewhere along the way my boyfriend got hooked too, so now he's the one suggesting salt bread before I even bring it up 😉 So at Café Meomureum we ordered salt bread plus drinks again, and wow, it was genuinely delicious! This is my review of discovering a Jeongja-dong dessert spot — let's get into it!

Where is Café Meomureum, and where do you park?

Café Meomureum in Jeongja-dong is on the 2nd floor of the Dongsin 1-danji apartment complex mall. You can use the mall's parking lot — we visited on a weekend afternoon and luckily there were plenty of open seats. If seats are ever full, I think using the apartment complex parking lot would work too! Since it happened to be a holiday that day, I was worried they might be closed, but true to the hours listed on Naver, they were open and easy to use, as if they really do open every day.

Inside Café Meomureum: paintings on the walls and a solo study-style seat

Honestly, the interior is so upscale and the vibe is amazing. The owner seems to work in something art-related, because there's a sense of aesthetic thought in every corner, and various paintings are on display along the walls. It's hard to find cafés with this kind of atmosphere these days, and there were so many fun details that just looking around made time fly. In the very back there was even a seat where you can sit alone — kind of a study-room feel? hahaha, it was fun.

What desserts does Café Meomureum have? Salt bread, pain au chocolat, walnut cakes

I checked out the variety of desserts first — salt bread, pain au chocolat, homemade walnut cookies, and even sandwiches, so it seems like a café you could stop by for breakfast too. Jealous of the apartment residents here...! I picked out the salt bread and moved on to choosing a drink!

Fresh fruit juice menu at Café Meomureum: grape, tomato and bokja

From coffee to all sorts of fruit drinks, there were tons of options — grape, tomato, and peach-plum (bokja) fresh fruit juices were all actually sitting in the fridge I saw earlier, so you could really tell they use real fresh fruit. The pressed grape juice was actually a menu item I'd never seen before, and I was curious about the peach + plum combo too. So I ordered the highly-praised bokja fresh fruit juice along with an iced café latte. Fresh fruit juice is surprisingly hard to find at cafés, so if you visit Café Meomureum, I recommend trying it 👍

How the warm salt bread and bokja juice tasted

The salt bread we ordered came out warmed, and the two drinks were prepared to match, so neither the drinks got watered down nor the bread went cold — everything arrived at just the right temperature, which was satisfying. The salt bread was pillowy soft with a well-formed crack running through it — honestly, it looked like it was telling you it'd be delicious before you even took a bite.

My boyfriend's pick, the peach-plum (bokja) fresh fruit juice, had the clear taste of both peach and plum, so the first thing I thought was that they're using fresh, real fruit — it really tasted like fresh fruit itself with no other additives mixed in! The portion was surprisingly generous too — we'd stopped by for a light bite after a meal but walked out clutching our full stomachs, haha. The iced café latte was also delicious, with a good balance of acidity and nuttiness.

The salt bread is honestly a must-order dessert! I heard this café is already famous in Jeongja-dong as a dessert spot, and now I get why. It had just the right amount of hollow inside, and the balance of nuttiness and saltiness was really good. It's one of the best salt breads I've ever had, hands down.

The colored-pencil drawing corner, a nice touch for a date

I noticed the couple at the table next to us were really focused on something, and when I looked over, I saw they had a drawing and colored pencils set out. You could color it yourself and pin it up on a board. It didn't seem to cost extra — people just seemed to do it freely! Turns out it was a drawing café this whole time — I wish we'd known sooner, honestly a bit disappointing. Next time we come back, we should start our date by coloring that picture right away ❣️
