Today I went to Garak Market, a place that never lets me down whenever I'm craving fresh, thick-cut sashimi. I love raw fish so much I've been to plenty of places, but this one really nailed all three things — menu composition, service, and packaging sense — and I came home genuinely impressed. I'd pre-booked a premium mixed sashimi platter (₩70,000) to share with my family from 'Narae Susan,' a well-loved raw fish restaurant in Garak Market, and this is my honest review of the takeout experience!

Where is Narae Susan, and where do you park?
Narae Susan is located on the 1st floor, Unit 48, of the Garak Mall sales building, open daily from 09:00 to 22:00. Here's how to find it easily even on your first visit!
📌By public transit: Come in through East Gate 1 (Dong-1 Mun) of the fish market on the 1st floor, and the shop is right in front of you — no need to wander around.

📌By car: Park on basement level B3, then take the elevator up — it's convenient. Parking near the pillar marked B12 in particular gets you closest to the shop, so keep that in mind!

A look at the seasonal seafood in Narae Susan's tanks
From the moment I arrived, I could already feel why this Garak Market Station favorite is so popular. True to its reputation as a takeout sashimi spot, orders for group takeout were going out one after another! I checked out the tanks — live shrimp, gizzard shad, huge blue crabs — all moving so vigorously and fresh that just watching them while waiting for my order was fun in itself.

The blue crabs were huge and plump — I couldn't stop looking at them. This place in particular uses perforated plastic baskets with good drainage, so there's no worry about paying for extra water weight — you can buy with confidence.

Narae Susan's menu and cooler bag packing: sushi platters and futomaki too

Narae Susan sells not only a variety of mixed sashimi platters but also delicious sushi platters and futomaki. Autumn gizzard shad (jeoneo), currently in season, seemed especially popular — there's a combo set with autumn gizzard shad included, so if you love its nutty flavor, be sure to check it out!

Maybe because it's run by a young couple, the whole shop felt super clean, with the display case packed full of fresh cuts and ingredients. And the packaging itself stood out! Most other raw fish shops just hand you a plain plastic bag, but Narae Susan packs everything into a cute yellow cooler bag, which felt much more trendy and upscale. The cooling effect kept the sashimi fresh all the way home.

What's in the 70,000-won premium live sashimi platter?
Usually when you take home a mixed sashimi platter, it's hard to tell which cut is which — but Narae Susan carefully attaches a name tag for each cut right on the plastic wrap, which made me appreciate the owner's thoughtfulness and sense all over again. On top of that, they threw in a generous helping of fresh abalone sashimi as a free service, plus chojang, ssamjang, and wasabi, all neatly packed.

How does Narae Susan's thick-cut live sashimi taste?

Finally, time to taste the premium mixed sashimi platter I'd been looking forward to! Can you see how thick the slices are? This isn't sashimi sliced thin just to pad out the portion — every single piece was cut thick, so each bite had this amazing chewy texture. The moment it hit my mouth, the sweet, nutty flavor unique to live fish burst out, and I instantly understood why this place gets so much praise among the countless raw fish shops in Garak Market.

The aging and freshness were spot on — no fishy smell or taste at all, and the more I chewed, the more the savory flavor built up. It was delicious dipped lightly in the ssamjang they gave us, and just as good with wasabi dabbed on and dipped in chojang. The abalone sashimi they threw in as a free service also had this crisp, snappy texture that was so fresh it practically called for a shot of soju!
Final verdict on Narae Susan
'Narae Susan,' the Garak Market favorite that always delivers fresh quality, friendliness, and careful service every time you visit! The generous portion, thick sashimi texture, and clever cooler bag packaging made the ₩70,000 price feel completely worth it. If you're looking for a place to grab takeout sashimi in Garak Market, head straight to Narae Susan without a second thought!
Han River picnic spots near Garak Market for your sashimi
As the weather cools down, 'hoe-cnic' (sashimi + picnic) — enjoying delivered or takeout food casually at a Han River park — has become a huge trend, right? Here are some nearby Han River park spots that are perfect for heading straight to after picking up your order from Narae Susan in Garak Market!
- 📍Jamsil Hangang Park: the closest major Han River park to Garak Market. Easy to reach by car, and there's no better place to enjoy thick-cut mixed sashimi while looking out at an open river view.
