Dangsan Station pork BBQ with crab doenjang jjigae: Gamgol
In short
Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch is a charcoal-grill pork restaurant on Seonyu-ro 49-gil, between Seonyudo Station and Dangsan Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. On a weekend evening the order was julzuri teukmokssal (pork neck), seolhwa kkodeulssal (chewy pork cut), gochujang charcoal bulgogi, flat spicy noodles, Mrs. Lim Soyoung's doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) with a whole crab for 6,900 won, and kimchi mari guksu (cold kimchi noodle soup). Grilled only to 80–90% as the staff advise, the pork neck stayed juicy, and wrapping it in the flat spicy noodles was the favorite bite of the night.

Today I visited Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch, famous as a samgyeopsal (pork belly) spot near Seonyudo and Dangsan stations~~ Even though it was the weekend, clubs and groups were having their gatherings there! It really does seem like a great spot for group dinners and get-togethers.

The interior has a retro vibe, and the side dish lineup really shows the owner's philosophy. And the pride of it all... the chef is apparently from Le Cordon Bleu, a schoolmate of chef Ahn Sung-jae!!
What to order at Gamgol Yeontan-jip on a weekend evening

That day we ordered one each of gochujang charcoal bulgogi, julzuri teukmokssal, and seolhwa kkodeulssal, plus sides of flat spicy noodles, Mrs. Lim Soyoung's doenjang jjigae, and kimchi mari guksu!! We really ate a lot haha ;;; Personally I was curious about the doenjang jjigae named after Mrs. Lim Soyoung, since it carries her name!

Meat can be ordered one serving at a time, and there's a sign saying even an 8-year-old will call the owner 'boss' — you can really feel how serious he is about his business!!! As a customer, that kind of attitude is so great!
The charcoal grill setup and side dishes at Gamgol Yeontan-jip
Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch uses an actual charcoal fire setup, which you don't see much these days — well, thinking about it, the name literally means 'charcoal house' haha;;;

Here's the basic side dish lineup. There's both napa cabbage kimchi and green onion kimchi, so you can eat whichever you like. They were both perfectly fermented — great grilled or fresh! The garlic scape muchim (seasoned side dish) served in place of shredded green onion was also a surprising and really tasty touch!!
Why julzuri teukmokssal is grilled only to 80–90%

The top of the photo is kkodeulssal, the bottom is mokssal (pork neck). The important thing: the pork neck must be eaten at only 80–90% doneness!! Overcook it and it loses its flavor, they emphasized this several times!! The kkodeulssal is fine grilled as much as you like haha. Oh, and only grill the meat in the center where the heat is best distributed!!!

Cooked less, it was definitely juicier and had that satisfying oiliness lingering in the mouth. Meat dipped in salt is still the best, haha.

There's also a huge variety of dipping sauces! The sweet potato mousse was the most memorable haha. The kkodeulssal had this crunchy, chewy texture, a totally different fun from the pork neck!

Pork wrapped in flat spicy noodles: the best bite of the night
Next up, the flat spicy noodles! The owner recommended them so enthusiastically while explaining the menu that we had to try them out of curiosity.

You wrap glass noodles along with the meat and vegetables — it was genuinely more delicious than I imagined!! I figured it'd just be like eating spicy noodles with meat, but the cool, sweet noodles somehow upgraded the flavor of the meat even further?? Personally, this was my favorite combo of the day!!
Mrs. Lim Soyoung's doenjang jjigae with a whole crab, 6,900 won
Mrs. Lim Soyoung's doenjang jjigae, at ₩6,900, has a whole crab inside!

Thanks to that, the broth quality was on another level — a really unique doenjang jjigae. It's definitely worthy of having her name on it, lol.

Eating like this, I really started craving soju, so I ordered one — and it turned out to be right in the middle of the ₩990 limited promotion?? You'd better hurry over and grab a drink before the event ends!!
Finishing with gochujang charcoal bulgogi and kimchi mari guksu

We were already stuffed after finishing everything we'd ordered, yet still ordered the gochujang pork belly... They mix the gochujang directly into the meat and quickly put it on the grill! It's thin, so it cooks fast!

Ah~ this is a soju anju (drinking snack) you just can't resist! Not too salty or spicy, just a faithful, honest gochujang pork belly flavor! Perfect for wrapping things up. A confirmed BBQ favorite near Dangsan Station!!

For the real finish, a cool bowl of kimchi mari guksu completes today's meal!! I remember the noodles weren't the thinnest somyeon but more like medium-thickness jungmyeon — a unique texture!
Free slush dessert and reasons to come back to Gamgol Yeontan-jip

For dessert, we finished it off properly with the complimentary slush the restaurant provides~~ Already famous as a Dangsan Station BBQ spot, the food is great, but honestly what impressed me most was how kind the staff were haha. I'll definitely have to come back for a date before the ₩990 soju event ends~~
