On a rainy weekend, all I could think about was a hot, hearty bowl of gukbap (Korean soup with rice) 🥹.

Deundeun Haejanggukbap Seonyudo Station Branch had just opened in the neighborhood, so I went for lunch with my baby.

It's a brand-new gukbap restaurant that opened about a month ago, but it was already pretty crowded. I guess gukbap really is the truth on a rainy day, haha.

Deundeun Haejanggukbap Seonyudo Station Branch is on the 1st floor of 105 Yangpyeong-ro, and even before I went in, the exterior caught my eye.

There are plenty of sleek, modern gukbap places these days, but Deundeun is decorated to evoke an old countryside gukbap house, which felt oddly nostalgic and warm.

It had that familiar feeling you might remember from the countryside as a kid.

But it wasn't tacky overall — the old-fashioned mood was mixed well with a vibe that modern people would enjoy, which made it interesting.

Inside, it was much cleaner than I expected, and the interior blended old-school feel with a trendy modern atmosphere.

I think younger people would find it fun with its retro vibe, while older folks would feel a nostalgic rush of old memories.

It's the kind of atmosphere people of any generation could comfortably enjoy, so it seemed like a good spot for a family meal out!!

The basic side dishes that came out were all prepared neatly overall.

At a gukbap restaurant you tend to go through a lot of side dishes, so it was convenient to have a self-serve bar where you could take as much as you needed.

When you're visiting with a baby like we were, there's a lot to juggle, so being able to grab extra side dishes without feeling awkward was also a plus.

That day, considering what my baby could eat too, we ordered

• Tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) set + spicy sundaeguk (blood sausage soup)
• Boiled pork set + pork gukbap

First off, there was a ton of sundae (Korean blood sausage) in it. The bowl was so packed with sundae that I never once felt shortchanged while eating. And true to its name, the broth is quite spicy.

Taking a spoonful of that hot broth on a rainy day felt like it hit the spot instantly — perfect for a hangover cure, or just as good as a late-night drinking snack.

That said, it wasn't overwhelmingly intense — it still had that savory gukbap flavor underneath, so it seemed like a taste most people would enjoy without much divide.

The warm suyuk set: tender boiled pork and seasoned chives

The boiled pork (suyuk) that came with the set exceeded my expectations too. It was so tender, not chewy at all, and easy to eat.

The chive salad that came with it paired really well. Eating the sweet-and-tangy chive salad with the pork cut through the richness and kept my appetite going — I kept reaching for more. If you like suyuk, ordering the set menu should satisfy you.

What I liked most about this visit was that we could eat comfortably with our baby. Choosing a menu when dining out with a baby is always the biggest worry, isn't it 😭

We ordered the tteokgalbi set, and it seemed to suit my baby's taste — she ate it really well. When there's a menu your baby actually likes while eating out, it makes life a lot easier for mom and dad, and that day the tteokgalbi meant my baby ate a hearty meal too.

Thanks to that, we got to enjoy our gukbap at a relaxed pace for once. 😊

It was also good for lunch with a baby, and with such a varied menu, it seems like a solid choice for a family meal out too. Since they also have dinner options, not just lunch, it seems like a good spot for a work dinner or a drink as well.
