I visited around 1pm on a weekend and there were way fewer people than I expected, so I had plenty of seats to choose from and the dessert selection was insanely varied +_+!!

Why Upper and Under for a weekend café near Gangnam Station

I went to Upper and Under, a large dessert café between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station. There are tons of cafés around Gangnam Station, but on weekends there are so many people that it's honestly not easy to find a place where you can sit comfortably ㅠㅠ This time I wanted to have lunch at Gangnam Station and then properly enjoy dessert, so I headed over!

I visited around 1pm on a weekend. Since it's a café right in the middle of Gangnam, I expected it to be packed, but there were fewer customers than I thought at that hour, so I could pick a seat with plenty of room haha. Especially since the dessert lineup was really varied, this seems like a good place to visit on days when you want cake, flan, and baked snacks together, not just coffee +_+!!🙌

Upper and Under is easy to reach from both Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, so it's worth checking out whether you're looking for a Gangnam Station café or a Sinnonhyeon café!

Inside Upper and Under: atmosphere and what is on each floor

The layout of Upper and Under is pretty unique! It's made up of a semi-basement floor plus 2nd and 3rd floors above ground, and you order on the 2nd floor!!

Cafés tucked in the alleys around Gangnam Station are often small with tight table spacing, but this place felt spacious overall, so it wasn't stuffy at all haha. Especially since I visited around 1pm on the weekend, there weren't many people, so I could relatively easily pick the seat I wanted.

Of course the crowd level probably changes depending on the time, but heading over right after lunch, around 1pm, seems like a good option!!

There are seats for larger groups as well as spots good for two people to chat, so it seemed fine for dates as well as gathering with friends.

Above all, it didn't feel like everyone was crammed into one space, so even on a day I wanted to sit and talk a bit longer, it felt less pressuring +_+!!

The Upper and Under dessert showcase: how many options

And what stood out most at Upper and Under was the dessert variety! There really were more kinds than I expected haha.

From cakes to flans to baked pastries, the showcase had all kinds of options prepared, so it's a place where you end up thinking for a while about what to eat.

Personally, some dessert cafés have so few menu items it's disappointing, but here it was the opposite — I stood in front of the case debating for a long while, haha ㅠㅠ.

In the end I picked one fig cake and one crème brûlée flan! For drinks I ordered two iced Americanos and one matcha pistachio cream latte!!

Upper and Under menu and what 37,400 won covered

The total order came to ₩37,400! Looking at the coffee price alone, it's not exactly cheap, as you'd expect from a Gangnam café, but given the wide dessert variety and the spacious layout, it felt reasonable when you factor in getting a comfortable seat plus dessert in Gangnam Station :D

Iced Americano and matcha pistachio cream latte at Upper and Under

Since I ordered two desserts, I got iced Americanos to go with them haha. Paired with sweet desserts like the fig cake and crème brûlée flan, it cleansed the palate nicely in between bites and matched well~!

And the drink I was most curious about — the matcha pistachio cream latte! The slightly bitter matcha, the nuttiness of pistachio, and the sweetness of the cream came together with a better balance than I expected +_+!!

If you like sweet, nutty cream drinks, this is a menu item worth trying at least once haha.

How the fig cake and crème brûlée flan tasted

One of the items I was looking forward to was the fig cake haha. The mild sweetness of the figs paired well with the cream, so it was easy to eat without feeling too heavy — nice and refreshing.

It looked pretty too, so it was good for photos +_+!! And then there was the crème brûlée flan, which turned out to be surprisingly my type!

The top was sweetly caramelized while the bottom had that soft flan texture, so eating it together was fun. It went well with the Americano too, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a dessert with a bit of a twist!

Eating it alongside the Americano especially kept the sweetness from feeling too heavy, so the combo was pretty good :)

What made Upper and Under work as a weekend café in Gangnam

Personally, what I liked most about Upper and Under was how varied the desserts were haha. With cakes, flans, and baked pastries all on offer, it was fun just browsing the showcase, and I spent a good while deciding what to get.

Both the fig cake and crème brûlée flan I ordered were satisfying too. The fig cake was light and soft, which I liked, and the crème brûlée flan was sweet yet soft, which paired perfectly with the Americano +_+!!

It felt less like a café for just drinking coffee and more like a good spot to go when you want to properly enjoy dessert too, haha.

This time, Upper and Under had a spacious layout, a wide dessert variety, and — since I went on a weekend afternoon — plenty of free seats, so it was a comfortable place to rest for a while haha. Especially with desserts like the fig cake and crème brûlée flan that go so well with coffee, anyone who likes sweets would probably enjoy just browsing the case +_+!!
