Jeju rice cake shop with a free yakbap bonus: Suragan Tteokbang

Wrapping up my Jeju trip, I stopped by Suragan Tteokbang to pick up omegi-tteok (millet rice cakes) as both a gift and a snack! Jeju omegi-tteok is always delicious no matter how many times you eat it 🫶🏻🖤

Where is Suragan Tteokbang, and where do you park?

Suragan Tteokbang is at 41 Noyeon-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do, near Jeju International Airport, so it's a great stop on the first or last day of a trip! I visited on my last day to buy a company gift. It's open 08:00–18:30.

The parking space right in front of the shop is a bit tight, so if you're driving, I'd recommend using a nearby public parking lot!

What does the shop look like inside?

The moment you step inside, there's a mountain of boxes stacked up! Turns out this is a famous Jeju omegi-tteok shop that people order by delivery from all over the country. Seeing the shipping boxes and gift-set packaging piled high made me feel like I'd found the right place, and I got even more excited~

Once inside, I saw an almost uncountable variety of rice cakes on display! I thought this place only sold omegi-tteok, but there was injeolmi, chapssaltteok, songpyeon, jeolpyeon, and more. Everything was individually wrapped with price tags attached, which made it easy to pick out the flavors I wanted~

Turns out Suragan Tteokbang has been running for two generations as a Jeju rice cake shop! Knowing they'd been operating in the same spot for so long made me trust it even more haha

Omegi-tteok order sizes and gift packaging

Suragan Tteokbang's omegi-tteok can be ordered from 5 to 50 pieces for pickup, and from 20 to 100 pieces for shipping! You can check the photo above for the price list of Suragan Tteokbang's omegi-tteok~

The gift boxes were packaged neatly and prettily, perfect for gift-giving! It seemed like a lot of people also buy them as thank-you gifts~

I also got to see the rice cakes being made in-store! Watching the process with my own eyes made me trust the food even more haha

Picking five flavors for a 30-piece office gift

I ordered 30 omegi-tteok (soybean powder, nuts, black sesame, tangerine, red bean)! With 30 pieces, it was plenty to share with family or friends, and since they're individually wrapped, it was easy to grab one at a time.

They also threw in a yakbap (sweet rice with nuts and jujube) as a free extra, and it was way more delicious than I expected! Since even the yakbap was this good, I got even more excited wondering how good the omegi-tteok would be 🤤

Nut omegi-tteok

This one had nuts 🥜🥜 piled on top of the rice cake, and the nutty flavor kept building the more you chewed. If you like a crunchy texture over a soft one, I'd really recommend this flavor 🫶🏻

Black sesame omegi-tteok

The black sesame omegi-tteok was coated thickly with black sesame powder on the outside, and the nutty flavor burst out the moment I took a bite! It's got a weirdly addictive taste — once you eat one, you keep reaching for another. The black sesame aroma was even subtly present inside the rice cake, so the nutty flavor really came through haha

Soybean powder and tangerine omegi-tteok

The soybean powder flavor had a deep, rich nuttiness that paired really well with the subtle sweetness! Personally, this was my favorite of everything I tried that day haha. It was also the most popular flavor at the office~

You can't leave out tangerine 🍊 when it comes to Jeju! The tangerine flavor felt distinctly Jeju the moment I bit into it. The refreshing tangerine aroma lingered subtly, giving it a charm that was different from the other flavors~~

Is Suragan Tteokbang worth it for gifts?

If you're picking up omegi-tteok to wrap up a Jeju trip, I highly recommend Suragan Tteokbang! Getting a variety of flavors to share was fun too, and it made a great gift~ I think I'll stop by again next time I'm in Jeju.
