Charcoal grilled beef near Maebong Station: Woosang Hwarogui Gangnam Maebong Station Branch
Walking near Maebong Station, one upscale sign really catches your eye.

That's Woosang Hwarogui Gangnam Maebong Station Branch, a grilled beef restaurant that cooks its meat over top-grade bijangtan (Japanese white charcoal)!

A friend who was scouting company dinner spots came here and raved about it, so I went in with high expectations.

So today I'll focus my review on the dishes I actually tried.
I heard the name Woosang traces back to Sutgol, a village known for making good charcoal, where the restaurant first lit its fire in Jeongja-dong, where the Tancheon stream flows.

Hearing the brand story — about not neglecting color, shape, and presentation, and the care put into treating honored guests generously — made me even more curious about the food. Even a single scallion garnish comes out looking like art at Woosang...

Why the dining room works for company dinners and business meals
The moment I stepped inside, I could feel the sense of luxury.

The overall tone was calm and the tables were spaced generously, so you could talk comfortably without worrying about the next table over.

No wonder this place is popular for company dinners and important business appointments.

There are separate men's and women's restrooms and even baby chairs, so this place can handle everything from family gatherings to more formal occasions.

The 85,000-won top assorted platter: how does bijangtan-grilled beef taste?
I ordered the assorted beef platter (85,000 won) and finished off with Hamhung cold noodles (9,000 won).

The moment the assorted platter was set on the table, I gasped. So exciting! A wonderful staff member explained exactly how to enjoy each piece.

The plating, with its careful attention to color, shape, and arrangement, was clearly no ordinary effort.

The moment the meat hit the bijangtan grill, a subtle smoky aroma spread through the air and my anticipation grew.

Just as they'd described — a reinterpretation of prized cuts in various ways — each cut had its own texture and depth of flavor.

The outside was coated in that crisp, savory smoky flavor unique to bijangtan, while the inside stayed juicy, so the more you chewed, the richer the beef's natural flavor became.

The cuts that were just quickly seared over the charcoal were especially memorable — the juices burst out the moment you bit in, yet it finished clean with no gamey taste.

Since several cuts were arranged harmoniously on one plate, there was no chance of getting bored — you got to enjoy a variety of flavors.

Side dishes and pickled vegetables served with the beef
Every basic side dish was delicious, so I kept trying different combinations and before I knew it, the meat was gone!

Beef can get a little tiring after a few bites, but here the side dishes were all so good I could keep eating without getting sick of it.

The jangajji (pickled vegetables) were especially delicious!! My favorite combination.
Finishing with Hamhung cold noodles for 9,000 won
After eating my fill of meat, I ordered Hamhung cold noodles (naengmyeon) to finish, and they really did the job of cleansing my palate.

The chewy noodles had a satisfying snap, and the lightly icy, mildly savory-sweet-and-sour broth washed away the richness of the meat perfectly.

The broth wasn't overpowering but still had plenty of umami, so it felt less like dessert and more like a proper final course.

Oh! And these scissors! I liked them so much while using them that I took a photo, thinking about buying a pair for myself haha.
I couldn't try everything this time, but they also have traditional braised short ribs, spicy braised short ribs, and a premium traditional liquor and wine pairing menu, so I definitely want to try those on my next visit.
