Today I'm bringing you a review of the place I've been so, so excited about — the new hotspot in Gwangalli, Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch!✨
Actually, I found out about Famous Benny in Changwon a while back and had it saved on Naver Maps. And then — what a coincidence — I heard they opened one in Gwangalli too, and I ran right over haha. I'm bringing you an excited review of a Gwangalli restaurant I really, really loved — a brunch café packed with atmosphere and full of good vibes (❁´◡`❁)
What is Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch like inside?
Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch is in a standalone 2-story building in Minrak-dong, so it wasn't hard to find. Pets are allowed inside too.
It's a 2-story standalone building, so it wasn't hard to find at all!! Pets are welcome inside.. If you have a dog, it seems like a great spot to grab a coffee mid-walk!!
A Blue Ribbon restaurant, no less~~ Since it's based on Australian-style brunch, my expectations were sky high!!
9am on a weekday: runners arriving straight from Gwangalli Beach
That's the 1st-floor tables and chairs, and the atmosphere on the 2nd floor. We visited on a weekday at 9am! (Most brunch cafés open at 10 or 11am, but Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch opens as early as 8am.) At first we were the only ones there, but gradually more people showed up still in their running gear, straight off a run, to grab brunch or coffee!! (I'm jealous of how disciplined they are haha)
They have salt and sugar set out separately, so you can season things to your own taste, which is a nice touch!
The restroom was also so, so clean✨
Wifi is provided too.. isn't this just the perfect place to spend time in.. Great for a date, and comfy enough to bring your laptop or a book if you're on your own!
There's a sunny window seat, but it was a bit hot that day so we sat further in, in the shade, haha. Overall the interior is done in a cozy wood-and-black style, so it felt hip and full of atmosphere at the same time!🌿 The chairs, window frames, and even the speaker have black accents, giving it a modern, clean feel with a little extra edge..

Dukes coffee: bright acidity that won over an acidity sceptic
Brunch just isn't brunch without good coffee!! (I'm the type who thinks brunch must be paired with coffee, ha.) Famous Benny apparently uses the well-known Dukes beans! I normally only drink nutty, mellow coffee.. and these beans turned out to have a sour note.. but somehow it broke my own preconceptions again.. maybe I actually do like coffee with some sourness to it?
How the bacon scramble toast and avocado toast tasted
The brunch dishes finally arrived. My expectations were already high from the coffee, so I had high hopes for the food too.. and first off, the bread itself was so, so nutty and delicious!!
The bacon scramble toast had soft, fluffy scrambled eggs paired with salty bacon — the ingredient balance was great, making it filling enough as a full meal. The avocado toast came topped with fresh, creamy avocado and fresh sprouts, and the combination was ridiculous.. the nutty richness of the avocado and the slightly bitter, fresh taste of the sprouts filled my mouth with flavor — it was insane.
And I realized something else too. That sour coffee, which could easily feel too acidic on its own, actually cut right through the richness that brunch dishes can have — the pairing was truly fantastic!!
Final verdict: would I go back to Famous Benny Gwangalli?
It doesn't seem easy to find a place near Gwangalli that opens this early and nails both the brunch and the coffee. And I used to be pretty averse to sour coffee, but now I get why people drink it!!!
Next time I'll definitely try their signature Eggs Benedict!! Revisit intent: 1000%. This feels like the first place I'd think of, whether I want to start a relaxed weekend morning or enjoy good brunch with friends in a calm space..
