Seodaemun burger restaurant for wasabi mayo shrimp: Bas Burger
In short
Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch is a burger restaurant in Seodaemun, Seoul. I tried its wasabi mayo shrimp burger with onion rings and a milkshake, loving the punchy sauce, charcoal aroma, and nutty shake. Verdict: Put it on your list for a different kind of shrimp burger.

A wasabi mayo shrimp burger in Sinchon
I stopped by Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch while I was in Sinchon for an errand. This time, I tried the new shrimp burger, onion rings, and a milkshake haha.

Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch: location and hours
Address: B1, 50-1 Yonsei-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, South Korea (5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Sinchon Station) Hours: Weekdays 07:00–20:30 / Weekends 10:00–20:30

It is in the food court on B1 of Severance Yonsei Cancer Hospital, immediately to the right as you enter through the revolving door. It is technically B1, but it feels almost like the ground floor haha. On weekdays it opens from 7 a.m., so it seemed perfect when you need somewhere to eat early, too!

A bright, tidy burger restaurant atmosphere
The restaurant is clean but has neon signs for a hip feel. Other Bas Burger locations usually lean more pub-like, but perhaps because this branch is in a hospital building, it felt a little brighter and tidier.

Pink lighting and deep wood tones come together for a casual but distinctive atmosphere. The long banquette seating and wooden tables even reminded me a little of an American burger joint.

The self-service corner had thin potato chips, ketchup, mayonnaise, and more. Unlimited potato chips!! There was no way I could skip them haha.

A shrimp burger with whole shrimp and wasabi mayo
I chose the wasabi mayo shrimp burger, with whole shrimp and wasabi mayo sauce. I swapped the fries for onion rings and the cola for a milkshake haha. I have been drinking way too much cola lately ㅠㅠ

This shrimp burger really lets the whole shrimp make an impression. The wasabi mayo shrimp burger comes with whole shrimp, onion rings, butterhead lettuce, onion, and tomato. It is finished with wasabi sauce, teriyaki sauce, and whole-grain mayo. You can see plenty of green vegetables and tomato between the round bun, while the charcoal-grilled shrimp peeks out from underneath 👀

Most shrimp burgers have a patty made of chopped shrimp, but this one was different because you could see the whole shrimp as it was haha. The shrimp was cooked over charcoal, giving it a smoky flavor, and the onion rings inside meant it did not miss out on that crispy texture either haha.

The wasabi mayo and teriyaki sauce also worked together, and the sharp little kick cut through the richness nicely. In short, Bas Burger's shrimp burger stands apart from typical shrimp burgers in both looks and flavor. I liked it 🤤 I would probably order it again next time!

The milkshake and onion ring combination
It was my first time having a milkshake at Bas Burger, and I liked that it was milkier and nuttier than I expected. The shrimp burger I ordered alongside it was not too rich, so the shake worked well even without cola or another fizzy drink.

Unlimited potato chips and devilishly delicious onion rings haha. Putting the thin chips and chunky onion rings together made choosing sides alongside one burger even more fun.

The potato chips were crisp but had a slightly substantial feel. Their texture was more like baked than fried chips, so I thought they would make a really great beer snack haha.

The onion rings were fried incredibly crisp, with that crunchy, salty, devilishly delicious flavor haha. There were about five of them, but they disappeared in no time as I ate them..
