Shrimp oil vs carbonara pasta near Nonhyeon Station, Seoul: Pasta Trio

In short

Pasta Trio is an Italian restaurant near Nonhyeon Station in Seocho, Seoul, serving pasta, steak, and wine. The writer ordered the signature shrimp oil pasta alongside the creamy carbonara known as Lee Young-ja's pick, alternating bites between the two — plump shrimp on one side, sauce clinging thickly to every strand on the other. A good spot for two people with different tastes to order one plate each and share.

This time I ordered the signature shrimp oil pasta packed with shrimp and the rich carbonara known as Lee Young-ja's pick.

The two pastas had clearly different styles — one oil-based, one cream-based — so it was fun to alternate between them and compare.

The first dish I tried was the signature shrimp oil pasta.

Signature shrimp oil pasta topped generously with shrimp

The first thing that caught my eye as soon as it arrived at the table was the generous amount of shrimp.

There was shrimp tucked in between the noodles throughout, so it was easy to twirl the pasta and get a piece of shrimp with each bite, and the plump texture made it even more fun to eat.

The shrimp blended naturally into the distinctive flavor of the oil pasta, making each bite easy and satisfying.

This is a dish that anyone who loves shrimp would really enjoy. One plate is generously filled with shrimp, so it looks great and makes for good photos too.

What does the carbonara that's Lee Young-ja's pick taste like?

Next up was the rich carbonara, which had me curious just from the name.

Since it's known as Lee Young-ja's pick, I was curious what it would taste like, and trying it, the thick, rich texture the name promised was the first thing I noticed.

The cheese and cream sauce were deeply blended throughout the noodles, and when I twirled them up with a fork, the sauce covered every strand without a single gap.

On top of that, the savory bacon added a nice touch that paired well with the creamy sauce, so if you love smooth, rich cream pasta, this one will especially suit you.

Ordering it alongside the shrimp oil pasta was a good call too. Switching between a bite of oil pasta and a bite of the rich carbonara created a nice contrast of flavors, letting me enjoy a wider variety than if I'd stuck to just one dish.

Since you can enjoy steak and wine along with the pasta, I'm already looking forward to trying a wider variety of dishes next time.

Two pastas, two very different charms

The two pastas I ordered this time each had their own distinct character.

Oil pasta and cream pasta placed side by side

The signature shrimp oil pasta, loaded with plump shrimp, was fun for eating the shrimp and noodles together, while the rich carbonara let me enjoy deep flavor from the cheese, cream sauce, and bacon.

Taking turns between the oil and cream pastas with a friend meant the flavors never leaned too heavily one way, so it stayed enjoyable right to the last bite.
