Honestly I don't eat Chinese food that often, so I've barely written any Chinese restaurant reviews! But this time is special. It's near my place, and the food photos I'd seen looked so unbelievable that I really wanted to visit — and I finally did! 😆 This is Hyeongjeae Guui, a Chinese restaurant in Guui-dong. Let's go in~

This Guui Station Chinese restaurant, Hyeongjeae Guui, is located 232 meters from Exit 2 of Guui Station 👀

The moment I walked in, it felt like a proper upscale Chinese restaurant. The open kitchen structure means you can see the whole cooking process, which really boosts trust in hygiene, and the staff were super friendly too. The place is so clean it feels like it just opened 🫶🏻

Hyeongjeae is a place where two brothers reinterpret Chinese cuisine in their own style, carrying on the know-how their parents built over 30 years running a Chinese restaurant 😮

That tagline really fit — this wasn't just a typical delivery-focused Chinese restaurant, but a place that properly straddles the line between drinks and Chinese food. Berkshire K Cantonese-style sweet and sour pork and XO sauce Palbochae are the signature dishes, and dried tofu Yangjangpi and black pork eggplant dumplings are popular too. There's also private room-style seating, making it a great fit for family gatherings or group dinners 💕

We visited during lunch hours and ordered the ganjjajang 1 + jjamppong 1 + sweet and sour pork 1 set for ₩37,500. It's a discounted price so it's very reasonable, and a perfect combo to share between two people 🥰

Pickled radish and onion come as basics, and if you need more you can grab as much as you want from the self-serve bar.

The meat jjamppong came out first~ Even just visually it's piled high with beef belly and looks so good ㄷ

Next up, ganjjajang! It's wok-tossed the moment you order it with pork, vegetables, and black bean paste, so the glossy shine on it is insane ㄷ

Jjamppong and jjajang, the flagship stars of Chinese cuisine — at Hyeongjeae Guui you get to enjoy a special version of both the meat jjamppong and the ganjjajang.

Shake shake, mix that ganjjajang up nicely

There's a generous, big pile of meat and vegetables on top of the noodles, and once you mix it all together and take a bite, the rich savory flavor and nuttiness of the black bean paste bursts through your whole mouth. Wow, it's been a while since jjajangmyeon this good — my friend and I kept marveling the entire time we ate it ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 👏 We barely talked because our mouths were too busy eating.

The meat in the ganjjajang was especially tender and full of juice ㄷ. The noodles were nice and chewy too, clinging perfectly to the sauce — impossible to put your chopsticks down.

The beef belly in the meat jjamppong just kept coming, no matter how much we ate.. meat is good.

Even though it's meat jjamppong, it's loaded with seafood too, so I kept picking up squid and shrimp with every bite ㅋㅋㅋ chewy squid, plump shrimp, I love it. The broth was spicy with a deep savory flavor — I didn't need a hangover cure, but it felt like one anyway ㅎ😋

How is the sweet and sour pork that comes with the set?

The final finale~~~ sweet and sour pork. Crispy on the outside, but so juicy and tender inside that the juices burst with every bite. The sauce is a bit tangy, tasting like the sweet and sour pork from childhood but with an upgraded, premium feel.

Hyeongjeae — why didn't I come here sooner.. it's the kind of place that makes you wish you'd visited earlier.
