Since it is close to home, I tend to visit Lotte Department Store Nowon often. This time, after the department store was renovated, I noticed that the atmosphere of the B1 food hall had completely changed. There are more restaurants and dessert shops than before, and lots of well-known places have moved in too, so lately it has been fun to look around one by one whenever I go to Lotte Department Store Nowon.

This time, my day off happened to line up with my mom's, so we went on a little date: shopping and lunch at Lotte Department Store Nowon, then a coconut coffee from Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters to take home.

I had heard a lot that Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters was known for premium coffee in Haenggung-dong, Suwon. I like coffee, so I had been curious ever since hearing it was famous in Suwon, and then a location opened at Lotte Department Store Nowon near my home. It is in the B1 food hall of Lotte Department Store Nowon.

Why I ordered the signature coconut coffee

Even though I visited on a weekday, there was a line because so many people were stopping by. I was especially curious because coconut coffee is said to be the signature menu here. It is famous, and the sign said 111 cups had already been sold, so I was excited to find out what it would taste like. I like coconut too, so I decided on the coconut coffee without hesitation.

Personally, my favorite thing about the renovated B1 food hall at Lotte Department Store Nowon is that you can take care of everything from a meal to dessert and coffee in one space. It was great for a plan like ours too: shop with Mom, have lunch, pick up a coffee, and head home.

I heard that there is also a 20% discount when you use the B1 food court. If you are planning to order coffee right after a meal, it may be worth checking out that discount. So, if you are looking for cafés and good food at Lotte Department Store Nowon, I would recommend looking around the other shops in the food hall too. It was convenient that I could come to shop, eat, and get coffee without needing to go anywhere else.

Coffee menu and the takeout setup

Along with its signature coconut coffee, Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters had a variety of coffee options. There was cold brew and a wide selection of drip coffees, so it was set up to let you choose something that suits your taste.

Mom and I visited together and ordered the coconut coffee. To be honest, I have hardly seen places selling coconut coffee in Korea, and I have not often been especially happy with it. So I did not have huge expectations this time either, but I was surprised by how delicious it was.

There was a line when we visited, so we had to wait a little. Still, since it is coffee, the turnover was fairly quick. We received a pager and got our drinks after about 5 minutes. That did not feel like too much of a wait for dropping by during a shopping trip and getting something to go.

One thing to note, though: Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters, Lotte Department Store Nowon does not have a separate space where you can sit and drink inside; it is a takeout spot. Since we had come after lunch, we used it as part of a leisurely walk home with coffee in hand.

Beans and decaf choices

Coffee beans were also displayed beside the drink pickup area. If you brew coffee at home, it could be fun to have a look at the beans too.

The beans are reportedly available in three main options: dark, medium, and decaffeinated. Pregnant customers can apparently switch to decaf free of charge, which is useful to know for anyone who feels cautious about caffeine. I liked that there were options not only for coffee lovers but also for people looking for decaf.

Coconut coffee that was not just sweet

The coconut coffee was smooth and sweet. Shaken espresso sits on top, and that combination felt quite distinctive. The characteristic sweet, creamy coconut flavor was joined by the rich taste of coffee, so it was not simply a sweet drink—you could taste the coffee too. Maybe because I like coconut, but it suited my taste perfectly!!

I heard that Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters also has patented coffee technology. After trying it myself, it did feel a little different from coffees I commonly drink at other cafés. I especially liked that, even with a characterful signature menu such as coconut coffee, the espresso flavor did not get lost. Rather than feeling like I was simply drinking something sweet, I could enjoy the coffee itself as well. So I think I understand, at least a little, why it is known for premium coffee in Haenggung-dong, Suwon.

Because it is inside the Lotte Department Store Nowon that I visit often, it is easy to get to and convenient to naturally continue on to coffee after shopping or a meal.
