Gangnam jazz bar rehearsal at 3pm and basil tomato lasagna: Flat Nine

If you want a date near Gangnam Station where you can enjoy jazz along with your meal, there's a place that does both at once. That's Flat Nine, located right by Gangnam Station. Flat Nine is a jazz dining bar with live jazz performances every day, where you can enjoy dining alongside wine and cocktails. We booked a Sunday 3pm reservation and tried the classic course for two along with a live jazz performance.

Where is Flat Nine, and how do parking and reservations work?

Flat Nine is located on the 5th floor of 10 Gangnam-daero 65-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul. If you're looking for a spot with a slightly special atmosphere for a Gangnam Station date, Flat Nine lets you enjoy a jazz performance along with your meal. We booked a Sunday 3pm reservation and were able to go straight in without waiting! You can reserve through Naver, and walk-ins are also possible if seats are available. Seating works on a sit-wherever-you-like basis.

Parking is not available. If you're driving, you'll need to use a nearby parking lot separately. I also used the restroom, and it was very clean, which I appreciated.

Flat Nine show times and the ₩15,000 live charge

Flat Nine's biggest feature is that you can watch a live jazz performance every day. Show times differ depending on the day of the week, Monday through Sunday.

Shows run in two 40–50 minute sets, with about a 20–30 minute intermission between them.

The lineup was posted right at the entrance, and you could also see the full month's schedule in advance. You can check the detailed lineup on Flat Nine's Instagram! It's a good idea to check the schedule for the day and time you're visiting before booking. The cover charge for the show is ₩15,000 per person, separate from the course or à la carte prices.

Cocktails, wine, à la carte dishes and the weekend happy hour at Flat Nine

Flat Nine is a jazz dining bar where you can enjoy plenty of drinks alongside your meal. There were really so many kinds of drinks!

Cocktails. There are 9 signature cocktails you can only get at Flat Nine, plus a non-alcoholic signature cocktail. Cocktail prices vary by menu.

Wine. Wine bottles start in the ₩40,000s, and they say there are over 100 types available including non-alcoholic wine.

À la carte menu. Besides the course meals, you can order pasta, steak, platters, sides, and desserts as individual dishes.

On Saturdays and Sundays there's a happy hour from 3pm to 6pm. During happy hour, all cocktails are 30% off and the live charge drops to ₩10,000. If you're also dining, they recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before the show starts.

Flat Nine's classic course for two and the basil tomato mille-feuille lasagna

This time we ordered the classic course for two. The classic course is ₩39,000 per person, and comes as a set course from aperitif through dessert.

Each table has a tablet, so you order your food through it. When ordering, you can choose whether your aperitif is alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Being a course meal, dishes came out one by one in sequence, and the staff kept serving continuously so there was never any awkward downtime waiting.

Appetizer

We got a crispy dauphinoise made from thinly sliced potatoes stacked in layers and fried until crisp, topped with lemon butter, shiso, and chervil.

Bread and seasonal salad

The bread was focaccia, served with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze. The seasonal salad was a hantae (spear squid) and melon carpaccio — apparently smoked spear squid and melon with pickled radish, thinly sliced and served with a charred paprika sauce.

Pasta

For pasta, we got the mille-feuille lasagna — ragu, béchamel, and cheese layered between sheets of fresh pasta, then baked twice in a pan and oven. You could choose basil tomato or white truffle for the mille-feuille lasagna, with white truffle costing ₩4,000 extra. We went with basil tomato.

Steak

For the main, we got dry-aged Jeju black pork tenderloin grilled over binchotan charcoal, served with mango purée, pepper jus, and grilled scallion.

Dessert

The final dessert was a seasonal cake with house-made cream cheese and nuts. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to experience dining with a jazz performance on a date!

Looking at the menu alone, I wondered if the course portions would be enough, but once we finished eating, we were surprisingly full! We tend to eat very slowly anyway, and combined with watching the show, we spent almost 2 hours dining. It was plenty for the two of us to slowly enjoy the course while also watching the performance.

Flat Nine's Sunday 4pm first set, plus the rehearsal beforehand

On the Sunday we visited, the show started at 4pm. I was worried that at 3pm, before the show, the place would feel quiet and awkward, but music was already playing inside the venue even before showtime. We also got to watch the rehearsal, which felt even more special!

The overall vibe of the venue is on the dark side, but each table has a small lamp of its own. The dim lighting combined with the small table lamps created a really nice atmosphere. Since it's a space built around watching live performances, the whole setting was well suited to focusing on the show. I personally love this kind of date atmosphere, so it really appealed to me.

At 4pm, the show started, running as a 40-minute set, about 20 minutes of rest, then another 40-minute set. Since our bus timing was tight, we sadly only caught the first set before leaving. Still, sitting up front let us watch the musicians play up close, and it made me feel like I was really enjoying some proper culture, which was fun in itself!

Jazz can feel a bit intimidating, but the staff let us know when to clap at certain points, which made it surprisingly easy to enjoy the show. Even for someone like me who doesn't watch jazz performances often, it was an approachable way to experience it. Being able to eat while watching a live show was definitely different from a typical restaurant.

Verdict: is Flat Nine a good Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon date spot?

This time we visited on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed the classic course for two along with a live jazz performance. What made Flat Nine most special, unlike a typical pasta place or bar, is that you can watch a live jazz show while dining. The overall dark ambiance with a small lamp on every table also made for a great date atmosphere.

We got to watch the rehearsal before the show, and during the actual performance we were seated up front close to the musicians, which felt like a unique cultural experience. Even for people who find jazz intimidating, the staff cue the clapping moments, which makes the show surprisingly easy to enjoy.

It's a good reference for anyone looking for a slightly special date near Gangnam Station, or who wants to enjoy a show alongside their meal. Beyond the course meals, there's also a wide range of à la carte options like pasta, steak, and platters, plus cocktails and wine, so you can choose whether to focus on dining or on drinks with the show. If you're looking for a Gangnam Station date or a Sinnonhyeon dinner spot with a different kind of atmosphere, Flat Nine jazz bar is worth considering.
