Mapo bakery croissants and lemon cake to go: Boulangerie Copain

In short

Boulangerie Copain is a takeout bakery in Mapo, Seoul, tucked into an alley near Mangwon Station Exit 2. I packed salt bread, almond and ham-and-cheese croissants, and lemon cake, all generously sized and satisfying. Verdict: the raspberry jam almond croissant and bright lemon cake are must-tries.

Outside Boulangerie Copain in Mangwon-dong

Boulangerie Copain is deep in an alley around Mangwon Station Exit 2, in Mangwon-dong. I came to Mangwon-dong often for bakery hopping, but this was my first time over this way, so I was super curious.

Boulangerie Copain in an alley by Mangwon Station

Boulangerie Copain is a bakery run by masters of baguettes and croissants! I was seriously so excited haha. A croissant master... are we in Korea or France...?

Various kinds of bakery bread

There were lots of croissant varieties too, plus lemon cake, red bean butter baguettes, and injeolmi croissants.

Croissants and sandwiches on display

There were sandwiches, blueberry croissants, basil crunches, and so much more. The breads were all generously sized and looked incredible...

Chocolate baguettes on display in Mangwon-dong

It is especially known in Mangwon-dong for its chocolate baguettes. A chocolate baguette made by a baguette master... there is a reason it is such a famous stop for a Mangwon-dong bakery crawl.

How the four breads I packed up tasted

I packed an almond croissant, ham-and-cheese croissant, salt bread, and lemon cake. I am simply not the kind of person who can visit a place famous for croissant masters without trying a croissant...

A selection of packed bakery breads

Salty, fluffy-chewy salt bread

The salt bread had salt scattered on top and such a fluffy, chewy texture. The saltiness from that topping was the best ㅠㅠ

Salt bread topped with salt

The buttery aroma inside was perfect, along with that fluffy yet chewy texture. Such a satisfying Mangwon-dong bakery.

Almond croissant filled with raspberry jam

The almond croissant was covered in almonds and felt so substantial! It had a gently sweet aroma, plus all those nutty almonds.

Croissant topped with almonds

It was filled with raspberry jam in the middle, giving it little bursts of texture and a tangy-sweet flavor that was seriously, seriously delicious.

Raspberry jam almond croissant

This sweet almond-spread coating was honestly so good ㅠㅠ The sweetness and brightness worked together amazingly.

A ham-and-cheese croissant that works as a meal

The ham-and-cheese croissant was huge too. With sausage and corn in the middle, I would recommend it as an easy meal substitute.

Ham-and-cheese croissant

The snappy sausage, popping corn, and savory sauce were all perfect. They went so well with the croissant haha.

Bright, refreshing lemon cake

The lemon cake came in the cutest packaging!! Its fragrant, refreshing lemon scent was the best ㅠㅠ The yellow color of the wrapper was so pretty too haha.

Lemon cake in yellow packaging

It was wrapped once more in plastic, which made it feel perfectly clean too haha. It was covered in sweet, tangy lemon glaze.

Lemon-glazed lemon cake

The cake was soft and fluffy with a fragrant lemon aroma... The full lemon flavor made it even tastier, and I loved that it was refreshing rather than overly sweet! I totally recommend this very delicious Mangwon-dong bakery!
