Yeonnam-dong terrace brunch café with wine: Hippo Brunch House

A terrace brunch café tucked into Yeonnam-dong

I visited Hippo Brunch House (히포 브런치하우스), a great brunch spot in Yeonnam and a beautifully decorated café with a lovely atmosphere.

Hours are 09:00–21:30, with last orders at 20:30. Dogs are welcome, and although it is tucked into Yeonnam, there is a public parking lot not far away, so it is conveniently located for driving over after parking.

The outdoor terrace seating is pretty, so lots of people come from morning through evening.

They sell all sorts of things, from coffee and brunch to wine.

As you head toward the entrance, the terrace immediately comes into view, decorated with a European feel. The intense summer heat has just passed, and it is exactly the kind of weather for sitting outside. Hurry over to Yeonnam and enjoy the terrace before it gets cold.

There is another terrace area on the side too, and I think photos would come out beautifully there when the sun is out.

Anyway, once you step inside...

The interior is decorated in a very polished way. It has the feel of a nicely designed café inside a department store or mall.

The food selection is varied, with brunch, rice dishes, noodles, and small dishes.

I photographed them so you could see each one. We ordered the Brunch All the Way for ₩21,800.

You can enjoy all kinds of things, including steak, pasta, fried rice, and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and they also sell fruit salad, French fries, and soup.

They also sell coffee, drinks, and tea, but we had stopped by after a run that day, so we ordered two Zero Colas.

They sell beer and wine by the glass too. If you buy canned beer or wine bottles from the market on basement level 1, you can drink them in the café without a corkage fee. Photos of the basement level are at the end.

I heard that Hippo Brunch House has been selected as a well-known Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon restaurant in Korea. You can trust the food menu.

Zero Cola and Brunch All the Way after a run

First, our two chilled Zero Colas came out.

When you drink coffee often, sometimes it just does not agree with your body. I was not in the mood for coffee then, so I ordered Zero Cola.

Especially since we had come after running, it tasted unbelievably good.

Our Brunch All the Way arrived. There was more food than expected, enough to fill two people. It even comes with three pieces of bread.

As its name suggests, Brunch All the Way gathers together all sorts of delicious things.

My wife and I ate it while hungry, but we were quite full by the end.

It had only familiar, delicious favorites: French fries, eggs, avocado, tomatoes, sausage, bacon, arugula, and more.

It is not the kind of meal that leaves you feeling bloated or heavy, so it is good for breakfast or dinner.

There is butter and jam too, so you can have them with the bread however you like.

When I eat only light food, I digest it so quickly and get hungry again soon. I liked that the bread came with it: it took care of the carbs and made the meal satisfying too.

Cut the sausage separately

I recommend taking the sausage out and cutting it separately. If you cut it while everything is together, it can get messy or send the other foods sliding off the plate.

The bacon came cooked exactly how I like it. Some hotel breakfasts cook it crispy, but I prefer it grilled just about this much.

The basement wine market and spacious gathering area

After happily finishing even the mushrooms, I got curious about the wine-selling area on basement level 1, so I went down to take a look.

On the left side of the first-floor entrance, there is a staircase leading down to basement level 1.

I was surprised when I went in. The basement level was huge and had lots of tables. It seems like it could easily accommodate even a group gathering.

Especially when you want to relax and drink wine in style on the first-floor terrace, you can look over the wines and buy one yourself.

Hippo Brunch House is a Hongdae-Yeonnam brunch café with great first-floor terrace and interior seating, plus even more large tables downstairs! If you are looking for somewhere near Yeonnam to visit with your dog, or for a group venue such as a wedding-invitation gathering, take a look.
