Gangnam pork grill house, ogyeopsal and neck: Gogikkun Kimchunbae

In short

Gogikkun Kimchunbae Gangnam is a Korean BBQ pork restaurant between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station in Seoul. The writer grilled 200g of premium-selected ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) and 200g of premium-selected pork neck over a charcoal brazier, with kimchi noodle soup and an omija highball on the side; the belly came out chewy-firm and the neck moist, with no gamey smell. Side dishes like pickled scallions, myeongi (wild garlic leaves) and hairtail jeotgal round it out, making Gogikkun Kimchunbae Gangnam worth a return trip whenever you want grilled pork near Gangnam Station.

Signature charcoal-grilled dish at Gogikkun Kimchunbae Gangnam

I love meat with a springy, chewy texture, so I headed to Gogikkun Kimchunbae Gangnam, famous as a Gangnam Station Korean BBQ restaurant. I tried the premium-selected pork belly and pork neck, and both had no gamey smell, great texture, and the banchan (side dishes) were exactly my style. Here's my honest review, plus parking and reservation info!

3F dining hall and private rooms: why it works for group dinners

Gogikkun Kimchunbae Gangnam has a room on the 3rd floor that seats up to 16, with the whole floor available for rental up to 80 people, plus private rooms for 3–12 on the 4th floor. I sat in the 3rd floor hall, where each table has good partitioning, so I could chat comfortably without worrying about neighboring tables.

It felt like a solid spot for a work dinner or gathering near Gangnam Station. I also appreciated the small touches — bottled water while waiting, and even dental floss and hair ties ready for when you leave. Very thoughtful!

What's on the menu, and what side dishes come with it?

Gogikkun Kimchunbae lets you enjoy both beef and pork in one meal, with a variety of cuts and meal menu items. It's also corkage-free, so you can bring your own wine or whisky to pair with the meat. Here's what I ordered:

Above all, the banchan here were totally my style! The scallion pickle and scallion kimchi weren't too sweet and had great savory depth, pairing perfectly with the meat. They even served wild garlic leaf (myeongi namul) as a basic side, which has gotten pretty pricey lately. There were four sauces too, and the pollack roe one surprisingly went so well with the meat that I scraped up every last bit. And then there was the hot hairtail jeotgal (fermented hairtail sauce) — salty and umami-packed, dipping the meat in it felt like I'd been transported to Jeju Island. The banchan alone were delicious even before the meat arrived!

How the charcoal-grilled ogyeopsal and pork neck tasted

Finally, the meat arrived! Gogikkun Kimchunbae is a certified Korean pork (handon) restaurant, and tasting it, the quality really showed — no gamey smell at all. The pork belly had exactly the springy, chewy texture I love, a total match for my taste. The pork neck, despite being mostly lean meat, wasn't tough at all — it was soft and moist, better than I expected.

The owner grilled it for us in person. Grilling directly over a charcoal brazier adds a subtle charcoal aroma to the meat's natural flavor — that's the key point. It was cooked evenly with no burnt spots, letting the texture and flavor really shine.

Kimchi noodle soup and the omija highball

You can't skip kimchi noodle soup after meat, so I ordered that too. It was right up my alley — not too sweet, tangy and refreshing. Eating it between bites of meat kept my palate clean.

And the omija highball was even better than I expected! It came topped with a bear-shaped ice cube, which was adorable on its own. Even though it has alcohol, you barely taste it — the omija (schisandra berry) flavor is strong, so it went down easy and delicious.

At Gogikkun Kimchunbae Gangnam, everything from the side dishes to the meat was delicious without a miss — a genuinely satisfying dinner. The staff were friendly throughout, which made the whole meal feel great. I especially keep thinking about that springy pork belly, so I'd love to come back whenever I'm craving Korean BBQ near Gangnam Station! If you're looking for a great Korean BBQ restaurant near Gangnam Station, I recommend Gogikkun Kimchunbae Gangnam!
