Seongbuk café for hand-drip coffee tasting: Mureungdowon
In short
Mureungdowon is a café near Sungshin Women’s University in Seongbuk, Seoul. On a rainy weekday afternoon, we chose two bright specialty hand-drip coffees through aroma sampling and the owner’s recommendations. Verdict: a warmly retro spot for savoring different coffees.

A sentimental record of the day my partner and I toured Sungshin Women’s University on a rainy day for the first time in ages. Mureungdowon, a lovely café near Sungshin Women’s University.

The weather changed so suddenly before I knew it. Are you ready to pull out new clothes from the closet? (I’m not yet... haha)
This is a little random, but have you heard the phrase “self-fandom,” which is trending these days?
The weather is chilly... the mood is gloomy too... On days like this, you know~ Lirak, the blog owner, thinks,,, that now is the time~!!! to treat yourself to something good!!
So today, I’m going to visit a café my partner and I have had our eye on for a while, tucked away in my little treasure box!
Mureungdowon on a rainy weekday afternoon
I remember that it rained a little on the day I visited Mureungdowon, the café near Sungshin Women’s University. Was it the café’s atmospheric mood? Or was the coffee I drank especially good that day? The feeling of the place stayed with me so strongly that even that little bit of rain is remembered as welcome:)
My partner and I, Lirak, visited at around 3 p.m. on a weekday, and perhaps because it was an in-between hour, there was plenty of seating!
An old-house-like exterior and retro atmosphere

The moment I first saw the exterior, it gave me a strong old-house kind of feeling...! (In a good way.) As you’ll see later, the owner also seems to really love and enjoy the retro concept:)
Choosing specialty beans and hand-drip coffee

I brought over a quick look at the menu too, in case anyone was curious!! Overall, I was impressed by the range of variations that are hard to find at an independent café!
Among them, if I had to pick this café’s standout strength, I think this is the point we especially need to talk about...? (Hint: you can spot it on the menu above too.)

Specialty coffee!! They sell it:) As someone who personally loves and enjoys this kind of blended coffee, I couldn’t have been happier!!!

Two cups chosen through aroma sampling and recommendations
At the time, my companion and I wanted hand-drip coffee with a little acidity, so we were debating what to get...ㅠ (I really couldn’t tell what was what...ㅠㅜ)
As we were thinking it over, the owner kindly explained things and said we could smell the ground beans right in front of us:) So we comfortably sampled their aromas, got recommendations, and decided on one cup of “Rain and You” and one cup of “Bobbed Hair”!!
Personally, I think this was a really good choice:) Both had acidity, but each had its own distinct harmony, so it was the perfect time to enjoy what made each one special.
Oh! The cups on the right are ones the owner prepared with an ice cube in each, since we had ordered different hand-drip coffees and could taste each other’s cup:) The owner seemed deeply knowledgeable about coffee. Thanks to that, I think we had a lovely time.
A warm-lit, wood-toned interior

Rather than being extremely bright, the interior brings out both a retro mood and the café’s characteristic warmth through warm-toned lighting and wood-toned décor:)
