Seochon salt bread café with mountain-view outdoor bar seats: Respire

In short

Respire Bakery Cafe Seochon is a salt bread and brunch café on Hyoja-ro 13-gil in Jongno, Seoul. The chocolate salt bread was already sold out on this afternoon visit, but the mentaiko potato salt bread and plain salt bread went well with a Respire latte and an iced americano at the outdoor bar table looking out at the mountain. The Respire latte is nutty with no sourness, and it is the one drink to order here.

Today's a spot that's perfect for this kind of weather, right? I'm here to introduce a café in Seochon that's perfect for enjoying a latte and salt bread while catching a cool breeze on a warm day. It's also famous for Seochon salt bread and brunch — this is Respire Bakery.

Inside, it's decorated like a little forest garden. Respire Bakery's lush greenery and woody vibe make it feel like you've wandered into a squirrel village haha. What I liked most, though, was being able to drink coffee at the outdoor bar table while looking at the mountain view — every gloomy feeling melts away with that view and a latte in hand!

What salt breads and brunch dishes does Respire Bakery Seochon have?

Respire Bakery is famous for brunch too, but it's known first for salt bread. From the plain salt bread to various flavored ones, let me introduce them one by one :)

I visited a bit in the afternoon, so there wasn't as much bread as I expected — you know how it is, the good stuff at good bakeries disappears fast. Honestly, before visiting I really wanted to try the chocolate salt bread!! But being a popular item, it was gone. The second one I was curious about, mentaiko potato salt bread, was luckily still there haha.

Here's the brunch menu and drinks. Before visiting, I looked into which menu items were good and heard Respire Bakery is known for its lattes. What kind of impression will the Respire latte make!! And if you look up top, there's the brunch menu too. Since it's also a famous Seochon brunch café, if you visit in the morning I'd recommend trying the brunch menu as well.

The vibe is really good, isn't it? The weather was so nice I decided to enjoy the salt bread outside haha.

What I ordered: mentaiko potato salt bread, plain salt bread, Respire latte, iced americano

My order arrived. Look at the layers of the salt bread — the visuals are seriously overwhelming, right? It looks like the kind of bread you'd casually grab and eat while relaxing in a small mountain village haha. Doesn't it already put you in a good mood before you've even tasted it?

Mountain view seen from the outdoor bar table

This is the mountain view you can see from the outdoor bar table I mentioned above — the mountain rises up tall and gives such an open, expansive feeling. You know those moments when you just want to feel some everyday ease? Take a day off soon, head to Seochon, and feel that rest at Respire Bakery's outdoor table!

How the Respire latte and iced americano taste

Respire latte and iced americano

Here are the latte and iced americano I ordered. Coffee is the answer when eating delicious bread, so I ordered my two favorite coffee types. The iced americano had just the right acidity plus a nutty edge, and it really went well with the salt bread! For anyone who wants to taste the salt bread even more fully, I'd recommend the iced americano too.

And the moment we've all been waiting for — the Respire latte. Visually it doesn't look much different from any other latte, but the moment you take a sip, your eyes go wide! An extreme nuttiness hits your nose (no sourness at all), and the milk's clean, plain quality boosts the flavor even more. I don't know the recipe, but... it felt like the nuttiness and cleanness were coming from the milk itself. Genuinely delicious!! Five hundred stars. If you visit Respire Bakery, the latte is a must-order haha.

Mentaiko potato salt bread vs plain salt bread

The salt bread! Before eating the potato salt bread, I tried the plain salt bread first to confirm this really is a true salt bread spot — and the soft layers and rich buttery aroma made me think, ah... they really know what they're doing here! Crisp and salty on the outside, soft and rich with butter on the inside — no need to say more. Then I tried the mentaiko potato salt bread. Inside was packed full of what seemed like potato purée, overflowing to the point of nearly bursting, and the gamtae (roasted seaweed flakes) on top met the crispy grilled mentaiko (seasoned pollock roe) alongside the bread — it was genuinely delicious. The saltiness soaked into the potato brought out the bread's own flavor while the potato's taste also gave a real sense of satisfaction haha.

Is Respire Bakery Cafe Seochon worth a second visit?

That wraps up my review of Respire Bakery, the go-to spot for Seochon salt bread and Seochon brunch. Just sitting there felt like a healing session. It was a place where I genuinely got to feel that time-stopped kind of ease again after a long while. Watching summer turn to fall, and fall turn to winter, from a little forest café like Respire Bakery — I think that would be an unforgettable experience haha. Try the brunch together, and be sure to have the salt bread and the Respire latte (a must).
