Walking through the Seochon alleys, I always find myself drawn to Respire Seochon's signature green vines and interior.

I love the quiet, old-town feel of Seochon and pass through here often, but this place's warm wood atmosphere always makes me stop. Today the weather was unusually nice, so I found myself thinking about cold coffee and something sweet, and walked in without hesitation.

The sunlit exterior and terrace

The green vines climbing Respire Seochon's walls look exotic every time I see them — like I've come to Seochon and somehow ended up somewhere in Europe. (Seochon has so many beautiful corners tucked away 🫶🏼)

The weather was so clear I really wanted a bench seat on the terrace, but the midday sun was stronger than expected, so I settled for a spot inside instead. Once it cools down a bit more, I definitely want to sit outside with a coffee.

Once inside, the warm wood interior feels calm and comfortable overall. By the cozy window seats I saw people working on laptops alone or reading, and elsewhere groups chatting together. It seems like a Seochon café that's popular no matter when you come.

The biggest reason I keep coming back to Respire Seochon is probably this relaxed atmosphere that doesn't care why you're here. Whether you come alone or with a group, you can stay without feeling self-conscious — which is why it's become one of my go-to Seochon spots.

Salt bread already sold out: what was left in the bakery case

It wasn't even that late, but the bakery case was already looking pretty empty. The popular Seochon salt bread line really does seem to go early in the morning. I was a bit disappointed not to get any — aww — but since French toast was still available to order, I went for that instead.

French toast with figs plus an iced americano

Respire Seochon's French toast is much thicker than it looks in photos, served with seasonal figs, cherry tomatoes and ice cream.

The outside is golden and crisp at the edges, while the inside has soaked up plenty of egg and turns out wonderfully soft and pillowy. I cut off the crisp edge first and ate that, then took my time with the moist, soft center — lots of different textures to enjoy. (Recommended.)

Putting cold vanilla ice cream on freshly baked, warm toast is truly something — that subtle cinnamon scent and a flavor that just hits the happiness button in your brain. One thing that might not be for everyone: the maple syrup isn't served separately but comes already poured on generously, which could feel like a bit much to some.

The fresh figs' bursting texture pairs nicely with the nutty pistachios. The coffee beans lean toward neither bitter nor acidic, which I think most Koreans would find quite likeable — just the right balance that doesn't overpower the French toast or the bakery flavors.

A bite of sweet toast followed by a sip of cold iced americano cleaned my palate perfectly — a satisfying Seochon brunch spread altogether.
