My sister and I were passing through Gyodae Station and stopped in for a late lunch at this gimbap (seaweed rice roll) restaurant — the gimbap quality totally satisfied me, and the dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) we had alongside it was so good too. Here's my review of Halls Gimbap Main Branch~
Where is Halls Gimbap Main Branch, and can you park out front?
Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a gimbap and snack restaurant in Seocho-dong, within a 5-minute walk of Gyodae Station Exit 1. I had another appointment elsewhere so I drove over, and there was a parking space right in front of the shop, which was such a relief~! It's also within a 5-minute walk of Gyodae Station Exit 1, so it's convenient to visit by subway too~
It wasn't a tiny snack shop at all~! There's even an outdoor terrace at the entrance, so on nice days like this, the outdoor seats seem like a great option too.
Solo bar seats at Halls Gimbap for eating alone
Inside Halls Gimbap Main Branch there are solo bar-table seats as well as larger tables that seat 2–4 people. The tables were spaced generously apart, which made for a comfortable meal~

Orders are placed at a kiosk, where you can choose à la carte items, gimbap + dakgangjeong set menus, or add sides like tteokbokki, ramyeon, and chicken.
The gimbap lineup at Halls Gimbap Main Branch is pretty varied, right? Konjac water parsley, wasabi, Jindo green onion tuna — the ingredients are no joke haha
You can choose small or large cup noodles, and the prices are super reasonable at ₩2,000 and ₩2,500. There's also self-serve bonito flake broth you can add to taste~
What we ordered: 1 Jindo green onion tuna gimbap, and the Halls Gimbap + dakgangjeong set. Ramyeon without gimbap just feels wrong!? So we added a cup noodle too! Haha
How does the Jindo green onion tuna gimbap taste?
The one I was most curious about — the Jindo green onion tuna gimbap!? So packed with tuna~~! And I noticed the rice was black rice too~
What I especially liked was that a lot of tuna gimbap gets heavy with too much mayonnaise, but Halls Gimbap skips the mayo and just packs in tuna instead — it was so much lighter and cleaner-tasting~!!!
The green onion flavor wasn't as strong as I expected, and the crunchy cabbage, green onion, perilla leaf, and pickled radish textures went really well together!!!! Genuinely recommend this as a must-eat near Gyodae Station~
The basic Halls Gimbap roll
The basic Halls Gimbap has spicy fish cake, egg strips, cucumber, carrot, and pickled radish — a classic gimbap flavor anyone would like, with the spicy stir-fried fish cake being the kicker~!!
Made with black rice, so it's even a healthier option, and the fillings are so generous that just one roll felt surprisingly filling~?
Four pieces of dakgangjeong in the set
And then the dakgangjeong, which was so, so tender. Apparently that's because they use domestic refrigerated chicken thigh meat prepped fresh that same dawn! No wonder~~!! One bite in and both the sauce flavor and the tender texture of the chicken thigh were amazing!!!
The set comes with 4 pieces, and eating them together with the gimbap is absolute bliss~ Dakgangjeong can also be ordered à la carte — I should get an à la carte dakgangjeong with takeout gimbap and ramyeon for a Friday night dinner~!!
The look and taste rival any decent chicken franchise, and apparently it's a handmade sauce made without corn syrup, for a healthier version. I actually tried it and it wasn't too sweet — clean and never sickening~!
Snack food really is best enjoyed by ordering a bunch of things and sharing them around~~ Eating gimbap!! And sweet crispy dakgangjeong!! And topping it off with cup noodles — that's the real charm of Korean snack food!! Hahaha
Verdict: is Halls Gimbap good for solo lunch near Gyodae Station?
Halls Gimbap Main Branch has been running steadily for 8 years now, and as a Gyodae Station favorite, it has a comfortable atmosphere that makes it easy to eat alone — it seemed like the place fills up with office workers during lunch hour.
I'm heading to the Han River or a park this weekend, so I should pack a gimbap and dakgangjeong set lunchbox to take along on the outing!!!
