I was craving meat so hard this time that I went and tried Choryang Saenggalbi! The restaurant alley near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station is already a pretty famous area for Korean BBQ, right? Within that strip, Choryang Saenggalbi holds a rating in the high 4s on Diningcode, and it's especially known for having staff grill the meat all the way to the end! For anyone who isn't confident grilling meat themselves, or anyone who just wants to focus on conversation without worrying about the grill, this place is hard to beat haha.
How to walk to Choryang Saenggalbi from Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station
Choryang Saenggalbi is about a 5-minute walk from Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station on Line 2, so it's easy to reach by public transit! The neighborhood is packed with BBQ restaurants and bars, so in the evening there's a lot of foot traffic and a lively atmosphere.

Inside Choryang Saenggalbi: group tables and atmosphere
The inside of Choryang Saenggalbi has that classic Korean BBQ restaurant vibe, but the tables are spaced generously so you can eat comfortably without worrying about the next table over haha. I saw a lot of groups there for work dinners and gatherings, and the setup really does feel geared toward group seating. It's less a place for a quiet solo meal and more the kind of neighborhood BBQ spot that's lively and generous with the group crowd!

What we ordered: saenggalbi on a cast-iron pan, with free corkage
What we ordered that day was saenggalbi (unseasoned fresh ribs)! The appeal of saenggalbi is that you get the pure juiciness and aroma of the meat without any marinade, right? And Choryang Saenggalbi's own cast-iron grill makes the meat taste even better as it cooks.

They even offer free corkage, which seemed like it'd come in handy for group dinners and gatherings.

Side dishes at Choryang Saenggalbi: scallion kimchi and scallop jeotgal
The basic side dishes at Choryang Saenggalbi were also really to my liking! From the basic lettuce wraps and scallion strips to scallion kimchi — eating them with the meat is an unbeatable combo..bb And the scallop jeotgal (salted seafood) was an interesting one, since it has this crunchy texture that was genuinely delicious paired with the ribs!

The saenggalbi we ordered came out on the cast-iron pan I mentioned earlier, and the quality of the meat looked amazing right away! Having the staff grill it for us meant we didn't have to worry about the heat or timing at all, which was genuinely great!

The free kimchi jjigae loaded with meat
Before I get into the meat review, what makes this place stand out is that this kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) is served free! There are plenty of places that give you a free soup, but usually it's mostly broth without much actual stuff in it, right? But here? Guess what?? This kimchi jjigae came loaded with meat, enough to finish a whole bowl of rice on its own, and it's free! I immediately ordered a bowl of rice and cleaned the whole thing up.

How the saenggalbi tastes when staff grill it for you
Since the staff handle everything from the first sear to the final golden-brown finish, we never had a conversation cut off because someone had to tend the grill — we could just focus entirely on eating. They grilled it so the outside was golden brown while the inside stayed juicy, and the moment I took a bite, the juices burst out!

Once the meat was cooked just right, they moved it straight onto a wire grill, which made it so much easier to keep eating comfortably — that's a real advantage!

The basic side dishes were delicious enough to create real synergy with the meat, and I especially loved wrapping it with the scallion kimchi!

Finishing with cold buckwheat noodles
After eating your fill of meat, you can't skip dessert naengmyeon (cold noodles), right? We finished with mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup), and there's nothing better to cleanse your palate after BBQ! The cool, mild broth cuts through the richness of the meat cleanly, making it the perfect refreshing finish after ribs! The noodles had just the right chewiness, and the broth was just the right cold temperature to cool down a body warmed up from grilling — it was a satisfying end to the meal. The cold noodles were pretty well-executed for a BBQ restaurant's dessert menu haha.
Who should book Choryang Saenggalbi?
I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to focus on the pure flavor of saenggalbi, or who wants a hassle-free meat experience where the staff do the grilling! If you're looking for a spot for a work dinner or gathering near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station, this one's worth keeping in mind!
