Sunday okko set at Akai Teppan, a Mullae Arts Village teppanyaki bar

In short

Akai Teppan is a teppanyaki bar in an alley of Mullae Changjakchon (Mullae Arts Village) in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Arriving by car on a Sunday at 4:30 p.m., the writer ordered the okko set — okonomiyaki with cuttlefish and mushroom fritters — plus extra shrimp fritters and beer, and the portions were big enough that the leftover fritters went home in a takeout box. Akai Teppan works just as well for a date as for a team dinner.

I've been craving authentic Japanese-style teppanyaki lately, and I heard about a well-known Mullae spot, so I headed straight there! It's called Akai Teppan, and since it was the weekend, I drove over.

Where to park near Akai Teppan in Mullae-dong

I drove there on the weekend and parked at a public lot nearby. Turns out on weekends or late at night you can actually park right in front of the shop. But since it's down an alley, I'd recommend parking at the public lot on the main road to avoid any hassle. After a 3-minute walk from parking, this hip signboard for a Mullae Station favorite appeared!

The entrance already had that full-on stylish Mullae bar vibe.

The interior was also cool and spacious,

and they even sell hip merchandise, so it really has that trendy Yeongdeungpo restaurant feel. Great for a date, a work dinner, or catching up with friends — feels like a hidden gem near Mullae Station!!

What comes in the okko set, and how it goes with cold beer

Menu board at Akai Teppan

After sitting down and studying the menu, I went back and forth before choosing the okko set, a generous Mullae teppanyaki combo!

It came with okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) and cuttlefish and mushroom fritters. Adding a solid order of shrimp fritters completed the perfect Mullae bar spread!

With a cold beer alongside, this really felt like THE Mullae Station spot.

Golden-grilled okonomiyaki

The golden-grilled okonomiyaki was loaded with meat! Hearty and satisfying — proper top-tier Yeongdeungpo restaurant class.

Plate of cuttlefish and mushroom fritters

The chewy cuttlefish and mushroom fritters were also a fantastic drinking snack, exactly the taste you'd expect from a standout Mullae bar.

How the cuttlefish and mushroom fritters taste

Freshly fried, thick cuttlefish and mushroom fritters

The freshly fried, thick cuttlefish and mushroom fritters had both crispiness and chewiness at once.

Fritters with cheongyang chili mayo sauce

This was exactly my kind of Mullae bar — the drinks just kept going down. Dipping the fritters in that mayo with cheongyang chili (Korean hot green chili) cut the richness perfectly and paired amazingly well!!

Leftover fritters packed to take home

The portions were so generous we even packed up the leftover fritters to take home nicely. The dining room was pretty full too, and delivery orders never let up — riders kept coming in and out, true to a popular Mullae-dong restaurant.

The dining room filling up on a Sunday afternoon at Akai Teppan

We visited around 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed it at a relaxed pace, but seeing how quickly the seats filled up confirmed this is a certified Mullae Station favorite. It's a place with an appealing variety of Mullae teppanyaki dishes and yakisoba (stir-fried noodles). Next time I want to come back to this special Mullae bar for the spicy pork belly yakisoba or seafood okonomiyaki.

Verdict: is Akai Teppan good for a date or a team dinner?

A tidy table setting at Akai Teppan

Authentic Mullae teppanyaki enjoyed in a tidy, clean atmosphere! A great Mullae-dong restaurant for couples and a solid Mullae bar for friends. A perfect Yeongdeungpo restaurant outing, complete with injeolmi (rice cake) toast for dessert!

If you're looking for a Mullae bar with a great atmosphere, I'd recommend it without hesitation. A satisfying Mullae-dong restaurant and a top-tier Mullae Station pick — bookmarked as one of my favorite Mullae-dong spots. Akai Teppan, a proven Yeongdeungpo restaurant, will stick in my memory for a while. Check the essential info about Akai Teppan below!
