IFC Mall snack restaurant by the moving walkway, Yeouido: kimmari set

In short

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is a tteokbokki and gimbap snack restaurant on basement level 2 of IFC Mall in Yeouido, Seoul, right along the moving walkway coming in from Yeouido Station. The Hyeonseoni Set, ordered at mild spice, brings tteokbokki, sundae (Korean blood sausage), assorted fried snacks and mini gimbap on one tray, and the kimmari (fried seaweed roll) dipped in the tteokbokki sauce was the crispiest bite. Hyeonseonine Premium suits a Yeouido lunch when you want to share several snack dishes instead of just tteokbokki.

On days when I'm craving tteokbokki, I usually end up wanting to pick a bit of everything, so this time I skipped ordering just one dish and went for a full snack-restaurant spread instead. The place I visited was Hyeonseonine Tteokbokki Premium IFC Mall. It can be a little tricky to find, but knowing it sits right along the moving walkway that leads from Yeouido Station into IFC Mall makes it much easier haha.

Inside Hyeonseonine Premium: seating and atmosphere

The restaurant overall had a clean, bright atmosphere!! I heard they recently added an extra-spicy tteokbokki too — if you're looking to blow off some stress, that's the menu I'd recommend haha. This Yeouido IFC lunch spot, Hyeonseonine Tteokbokki, has several tables set up, so it works well whether you just want a quick bowl of tteokbokki or you're visiting with a group to share a bunch of snacks.

If you're visiting with two or more people, the set menus that let you enjoy several dishes at once are also a great option! We ordered the Hyeonseoni Set, which comes with tteokbokki + sundae + fried snacks + gimbap!!!

On the wall were photos and descriptions telling the story of Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki! There was a real sense that this is a place that's been making tteokbokki for a long time, so I found myself browsing them while waiting for the food haha. Off to one side was a self-service corner with small plates and pickled radish.

Mild tteokbokki at Hyeonseonine Premium: thick, saucy rice cakes

At this Yeouido IFC lunch spot, Hyeonseonine Tteokbokki, having everything from the red tteokbokki to gimbap, sundae, and assorted fried snacks laid out on one plate really felt like a proper snack-restaurant spread! Adding the warm broth on top of that meant I could refresh my palate between bites of spicy tteokbokki haha.

The rice cakes were fully coated in the red sauce, and the sauce itself stayed runny like a broth, so even after finishing the rice cakes it was still good for dipping the other dishes in!! Taking a bite of one rice cake, it was chewy with a spicy-sweet sauce spreading through my mouth. You can choose the spice level — spicy, medium, or mild — and we went with mild haha.

Mini gimbap dipped in the tteokbokki sauce

The gimbap (seaweed rice roll) came cut into bite-sized pieces, which made it easy to pair with the tteokbokki.

The seaweed was generously topped with sesame seeds, and cutting one in half revealed pickled radish, ham, egg, and vegetables tucked between the rice. The colors were vivid too, which somehow made it taste even better haha.

Eaten on its own, the gimbap was fairly plain, but dipping it lightly in the tteokbokki sauce changed everything. The spicy tteokbokki sauce paired really well with the nutty, mild flavor of the gimbap haha. In particular, dipping the gimbap briefly into the tteokbokki broth is a combo that's hard to skip at any snack restaurant!!

Sundae and offal in the Hyeonseoni Set, cut by cut

The sundae (Korean blood sausage) had a chewy casing and was packed full inside. The offal served alongside it also came in various types, so it was more fun to pick through different cuts than to eat just plain sundae haha. Picking up a piece of meat like in the photo, the first thing you notice is its distinctive savory flavor, and adding a bit of tteokbokki sauce brings in a spicy kick that lets you enjoy even more depth of flavor.

Kimmari, the must-order in the assorted fried snacks

The fried snacks came out as a mix on one plate. Kimmari (fried seaweed rolls), sweet potato fritters, and vegetable fritters, among other varieties, were all mixed together! The batter looked like it had been double-fried, golden and so crispy-looking that you could practically feel the crunch just by looking at it!!

I especially love kimmari, and dipping it deep into the tteokbokki sauce made it so crispy, savory, and delicious that I'd genuinely recommend it as a must-order if you come to Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki.

Is Hyeonseonine Premium worth it for a Yeouido IFC Mall lunch?

At Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki, rather than eating tteokbokki on its own, we ordered gimbap, sundae, and assorted fried snacks together for a proper full snack spread. The red-sauced tteokbokki had chewy rice cakes well coated in a spicy sauce, and the gimbap paired nicely with it!! Adding the sundae with its various offal cuts, plus the crispy fried snacks, made picking through each dish part of the fun haha. If you want to enjoy spicy tteokbokki as the centerpiece alongside gimbap, sundae, and fried snacks all at once, Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki is a place I'd recommend for lunch at Yeouido IFC!!
