Peach and fig salt bread at 11:30am: Yeongdeungpo bakery BYWAY BAKERS
In short
BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is a company-run bakery café a 2-minute walk from Exit 1 of Yeongdeungpogu Office Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. The menu says the wakppu salt bread (a salt roll with a cracking white chocolate shell) comes out at 11:30am, and this visit picked the fresh peach yogurt one (8,500 won, bought on discount for 7,500 won) and the fig Basque cheesecake one (8,500 won), plus the regular favorite Hong Kong pineapple bun (4,500 won). Cracking the white chocolate shell is fun and the fruit and cream are generous, but the sweetness is strong, so an Americano is the right pairing.

The fun of a satisfying crack! Wakppu salt bread — BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch
There's a bakery I stop by often whenever I'm near Yeongdeungpo District Office. It's BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch~ For me it's mainly the Yeongdeungpogu Office bakery I go to for croissants. The pineapple bun is also a regular pick of mine haha. This time I stopped by again and they happened to have wakppu salt bread in stock, so I tried two flavors — peach and fig. It's not always available when I go, so once I spotted it I just couldn't walk past it lol.

How to find BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch, and where to park
BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is about 145m, roughly a 2-minute walk, from Exit 1 of Yeongdeungpogu Office Station. Being so close to the station makes it easy to stop by if you're already running errands nearby.
If you're looking for a Yeongdeungpogu Office Station café to meet a friend, not being far from the station also makes it easy to set a meeting spot~ If you're driving, you can use Dangsan Neighborhood Park public parking (₩1,800/hour) or the Yeongdeungpogu Office Station transfer parking lot (₩100 per 5 minutes). Parking fees are on the affordable side. They ticket strictly here, so street parking isn't an option. The Hanwoori Building parking lot to the left of the store can't be used, so keep that in mind when parking.

BYWAY Yeongdeungpo Branch is a company-run direct branch with about 60 kinds of bread and baked goods. From salt bread, croissants, and bagels to financiers and egg tarts, the range is wide enough that people with different bread preferences can still shop together happily. If you're someone who cares about variety when picking a Dangsan-dong bakery, this place fits well.

I always end up going with what I usually order, then adding one more thing I'm curious about — it's that kind of Yeongdeungpogu Office bakery haha.
What we ordered and what it cost
What I had this time was the fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread (₩8,500, bought at a discounted ₩7,500), the fig Basque cheesecake wakppu salt bread (₩8,500), and the Hong Kong pineapple bun with pineapple jam (₩4,500).

Wakppu salt bread comes out at 11:30am
According to the menu guide, wakppu salt bread comes out at 11:30am. If you're going specifically for this bread, I'd recommend timing your visit around then! It's often out of stock. At first I saw the name and wondered, what's wakppu? Turns out it comes from "wax bbusigi" (crack the wax), bringing the fun of cracking a wax coating into a dessert.

It's salt bread filled with fruit and cream and wrapped in white chocolate on the outside, so when you break it with your hands, it goes crack! The sound really does resemble breaking wax, so I got why they named it that~
Fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread, 8,500 won
The peach version is loaded with fresh peach, peach jam, yogurt cream, white chocolate, and peach jelly. The peach's fresh sweetness combines with the light tang of the yogurt cream, and the white chocolate adds extra sweetness on top.

Above all, plenty of fruit and plenty of cream! I liked how generous the filling was. With the chocolate shell cracking on the outside and cream and fruit packed inside, the texture wasn't boring at all. If you like peach desserts, this is worth checking out.
Fig Basque cheesecake wakppu salt bread, 8,500 won
The fig version includes fresh fig, Basque cheesecake, and yogurt cream. If the peach one is a fruit-and-yogurt combo, this one lets you enjoy the rich, savory flavor of cheesecake as well. The fig's gentle sweetness combines with the cheesecake and cream, so the ingredient combo felt quite substantial~ Good to pick on a day when you want both fig and cheesecake haha.

Both were delicious with generous fillings, but to my taste the sweetness was fairly strong. Good for when you're craving a sweet Yeongdeungpogu Office dessert. If you're pairing it with a drink, I'd go for coffee like an Americano rather than something sweet~

The regular order: Hong Kong pineapple bun, 4,500 won
The pineapple bun is my go-to whenever I come here. Even though I picked wakppu salt bread this time, I made sure to get this too haha. It has cold salted butter inside a crumbly, crunchy exterior, with pineapple jam served separately.

Savory, salty butter combined with the fresh tang of pineapple jam! I especially love this pineapple jam~ I'm curious about new menu items too, but having dishes I keep thinking about is probably why I keep coming back. If you want to try something different at a Dangsan-dong bakery, go for the wakppu salt bread; if you love a butter-and-jam combo, I'd recommend the pineapple bun.
Seating and atmosphere: full at lunchtime
BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch has a fairly spacious store. It's great for takeout, but there are also various seats if you want to sit and eat. There are single seats, a bar table, group seats, and even a meeting room, so it works well depending on how many people you're with.

That said, when I went during lunchtime, that spacious store was completely full! I was glad the bread stock was plentiful, but the seats were popular too lol. If you're looking for a Yeongdeungpogu Office Station café to sit and relax at, keep in mind it can get crowded at lunchtime. On busy days like when I went, it's a good idea to check the seating situation first.

Baby chairs and wheelchair access are also available here. Oh, and they have financier gift boxes too, worth keeping in mind if you're preparing a baked-goods gift~ This time they had a Chuseok holiday package out.
Is BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo worth a trip?
For me, BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is the Yeongdeungpogu Office bakery that naturally comes to mind whenever I'm in the area. I usually stick to croissants and the pineapple bun, but this time I also tried the wakppu salt bread, and the fun of cracking it open plus the generous fruit and cream made it enjoyable as a sweet dessert~ If you're looking for a Dangsan-dong bakery with a wide bread variety, or curious about something different during a Yeongdeungpo bakery tour, it's worth a visit.
