A warm bowl of ramen after work

After work, there are days when, rather than anything elaborate, all you want is a bowl of noodles in hot broth, you know? That day, I was looking around near City Hall Station for dinner after work and stopped by Mentsuru City Hall Branch. It is close to City Hall Station, so it seemed like a nice place for office workers in the area to pop into after work. I went in for ramen, and the restaurant itself felt warm and comfortable too.

Once inside, the overall wood-toned interior gave the place a warm, cozy feel. There was also bar-style seating along one side, and I saw quite a few other people dining alone. It is an atmosphere where solo dining does not feel awkward at all.

A menu centered on Japanese ramen

The menu also has a good variety centered on Japanese ramen, so it is easy to order a bowl that suits your taste and have a relaxed meal!

A filling meal of motsu ramen and handmade karaage

Even though I was alone that day, I wanted a filling meal, so I ordered motsu ramen and handmade karaage. (Warning: lots of food.) And of course, I also ordered the Asahi draft beer that you simply cannot skip at a ramen restaurant. 🍺🍺🍺

Motsu ramen and handmade karaage order

I started with the motsu ramen, which had a generous amount of beef intestines and thin-sliced beef belly, so it looked filling from the start. The broth was rich and nicely spicy, making it perfect for when you crave hot soup after work. More than anything, what is with all those generous toppings?! This was not ramen where you just finish the noodles; with the intestines and beef belly too, one bowl was plenty satisfying.

The handmade karaage (Japanese fried chicken) I ordered as a side also came in a generous portion. It was crisp outside and moist inside, paired well with the ramen, and most of all, it was perfect beer food.

The ramen alone would probably have been enough, but ordering the karaage too made it feel like I was having a proper dinner after work.

A glass of Asahi draft beer with motsu ramen

Motsu ramen and Asahi draft beer really are the pairing 🍜🍺 It is not easy to pass up an Asahi draft beer. Especially after finishing a full day, I do not know why a cold glass of draft beer tastes so good.

A bite of rich, spicy motsu ramen followed by a sip of cold draft beer made it feel as if some of the day's built-up fatigue had melted away. I seriously cannot give up this combo, y'all. The coolness of the Asahi draft beer added to the rich, spicy flavor of the motsu ramen, so I kept reaching for both the food and the beer. Overall, the portions were generous, and both the motsu ramen and karaage I ordered were delicious, making for a satisfying dinner. Mentsuru City Hall Branch is a great place to visit when you are craving ramen and a glass of draft beer after work 🍜 If you are looking for a good restaurant near City Hall Station, stop by for a hearty dinner in a neat, warm atmosphere.
