Jeju Korean restaurant for wood-fired mackerel lunch: Hwadeogeuro Gan
In short
Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch is a Korean restaurant by Iho Tewoo Beach in Jeju. I stopped in for lunch near the airport and enjoyed grilled mackerel, an unlimited self-service bar, and sea views. A satisfying fish meal I would happily return for in Jeju.

Since I was in Jeju, I felt like I had to eat some mackerel before leaving, so I came to Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch. It is close to the airport, so we came for lunch on our departure day—and being able to eat with Iho Tewoo Beach right in front of us? The view was incredible too.

Exterior

An interior overlooking Iho Tewoo Beach

The interior was clean and pleasant, with plenty of tables for its size and the comfortable feel you want from a Korean restaurant. With Tewoo Beach spread out right before my eyes, it felt like I could finally breathe deeply.

I also loved the stone-wall view—it had such a Jeju feel. 🪨

It has not been open for long, but the owner was kind and the location is great, so I got the feeling it will quickly become a very popular spot. 🤍
What is on the unlimited self-service bar?
There is a self-service bar too, neatly and cleanly arranged, with five kinds of banchan (Korean side dishes) and a station for frying your own eggs. 🍳
There was plenty to enjoy: kimchi dishes, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), wrap vegetables, fried food, nurungji (scorched rice), and even grapes for dessert.
The egg-frying station was a hot spot too. Since it was self-service and unlimited, everyone was bustling around, haha.
A rice cooker is also ready if you need more rice, so you can help yourself as much as you like. The thoughtful service for diners stood out everywhere. 🤍✨

It was convenient that we could order and pay through the table-order system. Paper cups, soy sauce, and wet wipes were prepared at every table.
Even the water was not plain bottled water—it was lemon water, so it was refreshing and smelled wonderful too. 🫢
The menu and our grilled mackerel set meal

The menu is made up of table-set combos and popular table-set dishes, and we ordered two wood-fired grilled mackerel set meals. I wanted grilled cutlassfish too, but I really wanted to have mackerel before leaving, so mackerel it was!!
A mackerel meal roasted in a wood-fired oven above 500°C

This was a fragrant grilled-fish meal, made even nuttier from the wood-fired oven, where the fish is roasted at over 500°C. From the moment we walked in, the savory smell of fish grilling throughout the restaurant whetted our appetites—and finally, it was right in front of me. 🙊🤍

It arrived as such a generous spread. There were four side dishes and bean sprout soup, along with plump, fresh grilled mackerel. ✨

Because it came straight from the wood-fired oven, the flavor was deeper and more savory. When you grill fish at home, oil splatters, cleanup is hard, and the smell lingers everywhere—but being able to enjoy it this neatly and deliciously was simply perfect.
Doesn't it look absolutely delicious? ✨🫢

If the grilled fish feels a little mild to you, it would be nice to dip it in soy sauce with wasabi and adjust the seasoning that way.

I piled plenty onto fresh wrap vegetables and tucked it in properly. I still think about that savory flavor, so I think I would visit again if I go to Jeju.

Just look at that shine! I scraped every last bit off and piled it generously over rice too. Oily fish is so good for you, and it honestly made me feel healthier. I scraped it clean until it was unrecognizable. 👍👍

I also loved that coffee was prepared for us to have on the way out after the meal. ☕️✨
There is a stone wall near the entrance, which seemed perfect as a photo spot, so I left with a quick picture too, lol haha.

After we finished, we walked all along Iho Tewoo Beach, and it was so relaxing and lovely~ It is in a great location to stop by while driving too, so I recommend everyone visit at least once.
