Gangnam Seoul Korean BBQ with par-grilled pork: Onggi Jip

In short

Onggi Jip is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, within walking distance of Apgujeong Station. I tried the 500g Par-Grilled Set A with several pork cuts, then finished with flying-fish-roe cheese kimchi fried rice for 57,000 won plus 5,000 won. Verdict: a satisfying choice when you want good pork without grilling everything from scratch.

Onggi Jip (옹기집) is on the first floor of the Daou Building at 3 Nonhyeon-ro 152-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It is about 613m from Exit 3 of Apgujeong Station, around a 7–8 minute walk. It sits at the entrance to the alley by the Seven Eleven behind Sunshine Hotel, so it was easy enough to reach on foot from the station.

It is open Monday through Saturday from 16:00 to 23:00, with last orders at 22:30, and is regularly closed every Sunday. There is no dedicated parking, but I was told to use the Apgujeong Overpass public roadside parking lot, about a 10-minute walk away. Reservations are available too, so it seemed like a good place to book ahead for a larger Gangnam team dinner.

A comfortable dining room for groups

Onggi Jip restaurant atmosphere

The restaurant had the comfortable yet tidy feel you would expect from a Korean BBQ spot. Each table had a tablet, so I could browse the menu at my own pace and order without having to call a staff member over.

The tables were arranged well for groups to sit around and eat, making it a nice fit for dinner with friends as well as office get-togethers. Best of all, the par-grilled menu means you can eat more comfortably than when you have to cook every piece from the very beginning at the table.

The menu had more variety than I expected, from pork and beef to set menus and meal dishes.

  • Par-Grilled Set, 750g for 3–4 people: ₩88,000
  • Par-Grilled Set A, 500g for 2–3 people: ₩57,000
  • 450 Pork Belly Set: ₩51,000

  • 1++ Korean beef brisket, 130g: ₩30,000

There were dessert and finishing dishes too, which made it nice to round out a meat meal: flying-fish-roe cheese kimchi fried rice was ₩5,000, kudzu cold noodles in broth were ₩8,000, and Gangneung Grandma doenjang (soybean-paste stew) was ₩7,000. They also had wine, so it looked like a decent option for anyone who wants wine with their meat.

Trying several cuts with Par-Grilled Set A

We ordered Par-Grilled Set A, 500g for 2–3 people, at ₩57,000. Rather than eating just one cut the whole time, we chose the set because we wanted to try several at once. The meat comes par-grilled when you make a Naver reservation!! At the table, you just cook it a little more to your preferred doneness, which was convenient.

Even in the photos, the meat looks quite thick! The pork belly had a nice balance of fat and lean meat, giving it a rich flavor when cooked. I browned the outside without cooking the inside too dry, so it stayed juicy and was delicious.

The pork neck was leaner than the pork belly but still thick, with a satisfying chew. Being able to eat pork cuts with different textures in one set made it great for two people who wanted to sample a bit of everything.

When looking for pork belly in Apgujeong, the quality of the meat matters, of course, but if you prefer somewhere that par-grills it rather than somewhere that leaves you scrambling to cook it constantly yourself, I think you can have a more relaxed meal here. And wow, the meat quality was so good—it was seriously delicious!

Finishing with flying-fish-roe cheese kimchi fried rice

After we finished the meat, we wrapped things up with flying-fish-roe cheese kimchi fried rice for ₩5,000. You can tell from the photo alone that the portion was quite generous, with plenty of roasted seaweed flakes on top and cheese in the middle.

Once mixed together, the cheese made the spicy, savory kimchi fried rice richer, while the popping flying fish roe and seaweed flakes came through too. It went so well as a final dish after meat. We were already fairly full, but fried rice always seems to find its own space, haha. Rather than ending with meat alone, it would be nice to order one at the end and share it.

When you want to enjoy par-grilled meat comfortably

I was satisfied with Onggi Jip because it is walkable from Apgujeong Station and lets you enjoy par-grilled meat with ease. The Par-Grilled Set A we had made choosing easy because it included several cuts at once, and the thick meat tasted great browned nicely on the grill. We could finish with a filling plate of flying-fish-roe cheese kimchi fried rice too.

With its varied menu and available reservations, it looked like a good option for dinner plans with friends or for an office gathering. If you are looking for a tidy Korean BBQ restaurant in Apgujeong or pork belly that comes par-grilled, keep Onggi Jip in mind 💛
