On a weekend evening, my wife and I headed near Gunja Station looking for somewhere we could chat away together and enjoy a drink with delicious food.

We needed somewhere we could have both dinner and drinks late into the evening—without it being too loud, and with a private feel.

So we visited Saechamjip (새참집), a Korean bar near Gunja Station that had long been creating buzz for its quality bar food and generous portions.

Here is the story of our perfect date, complete with delicious bone grill, crisp jeon (Korean savory pancake), and a refreshing bowl of makgeolli (Korean rice wine).

A Korean bar near Gunja Station with comfortable partitioned seating
As soon as we stepped inside, the modern interior blended with an old-fashioned hanji (traditional Korean paper)-like feel, creating a distinctly warm and atmospheric space.

Best of all, every table had partitions and soft blinds between them. We could settle in cozily without worrying about other people’s eyes on us, and it felt as comfortable as being in a private room at a Korean bar near Gunja Station.
Saechamjip is on the second floor of a building near Gunja Station, so it is exceptionally easy to reach by public transit. It is only a short walk from the station, and even first-time visitors should find it easily thanks to the large sign.

The dining room itself was spacious, with plenty of space between seats. It was an excellent layout not only for an intimate date, but also for work dinners or gatherings with a larger group.

As soon as we sat down, the staff thoughtfully brought us chilled hovenia tea and hangover-relief jelly sticks, which immediately won me over.

The complimentary banchan (side dishes)—a tart, refreshing icy muksabal (acorn jelly soup) and crisp fish-cake chips—were also perfect for lightly settling our stomachs before the mains arrived.
Boneless bone grill simmered for 48 hours
48 hours of care! Boneless bone grill that melts in your mouth

The main dish my wife and I chose that day was the restaurant’s signature bone grill. We ordered the boneless version so it would be easy to eat.
The fresh meat is said to be simmered for 48 hours in a special seasoned broth, then grilled over direct heat. It arrived sizzling on a stone plate, and its looks and deep smoky aroma completely stole the show.
Tender meat
Thanks to all that careful, long simmering, the meat was tender and soft rather than dry. The moment it went into my mouth, it simply melted away.

An addictive sauce
Rather than the harsh heat of capsaicin, the special sweet-spicy sauce was deeply savory and soaked right into the lean meat. I could not put my chopsticks down.

A generous, balanced topping
Wrapping the meat with the abundant crisp bean sprouts and pungent shredded scallions made the textures and flavors even more lively.

Whole-shrimp minari jeon with makgeolli
Another popular dish we ordered to go with the spicy food was the whole-shrimp minari jeon (water parsley pancake).

The fragrant scent of minari reached us as soon as it hit the table. Instead of tiny chopped shrimp, it came studded with plump whole shrimp, and the presentation alone drew a gasp. The batter was not thick, and it was packed generously with minari, so it was crunchy outside, moist inside, and bursting with fragrance.
Adding a chilled bowl of Saechamjip’s specialty makgeolli, nutty and sweet, made it absolutely perfect.

A bite of spicy bone grill, a bite of crisp, fragrant jeon, and a refreshing sip of pomegranate highball—honestly, it was so delicious. It felt like a dream combination that perfectly satisfies both dinner and drinks.
If you are looking for a Korean bar near Gunja Station for an intimate date, or a comfortable spot where a group can gather over delicious food and drinks, I definitely recommend stopping by Saechamjip.
