Widaehan Jogae Jeongol near Daejeon University’s west gate
Outside
I visited Widaehan Jogae Jeongol (위대한조개전골), a great clam hot pot spot in Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon. It was near Daejeon University’s west gate, and Yongsugol Jjimjilbang was nearby too.
Their dongjuk kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup with surf clams) was just ₩7,500, making this an incredibly good-value place in Daejeon.
Indoor seating and group visits
This is the inside of Widaehan Jogae Jeongol, a Daejeon favorite. There were lots of table types, including four- and eight-person tables, and they were roomy and comfortable. I heard it is often used for Daejeon University work dinners! That makes it a great spot for group get-togethers and company dinners in Daejeon.
They also had high chairs, so it was a great restaurant in Yongun-dong, Daejeon, to visit with children.

Widaehan Jogae Jeongol encourages diners to try local soju to help revitalize the regional economy! It was a Daejeon restaurant that supports its local area like this, too.
Basic table setting
The basic spread included beondegi (silkworm pupae), kimchi, cabbage salad, fried squid, and spring rolls, and the fried squid was sooo good..! The fresh kimchi was delicious too, so I think the kalguksu is an essential order.
Two-person clam hot pot steamed at the table
The clam hot pot arrived generously piled into a steamer like this.
It was steamed right at the table, and when it was ready, the owner opened everything for us. They even cleaned and prepared it, putting the abalone on the plate first. There were many kinds of shellfish, including mussels and scallops, plus fish cake skewers.
They removed each clam from its shell so it was easy to eat, one by one, and the broth was refreshing and delicious.
Maybe they use really good cheese, because it had wonderful flavor and tasted great.
And the kalguksu noodles
I ordered the kalguksu noodle add-on too.
The noodles were bouncy and delicious, and the incredibly tasty kimchi made them even better! The clam hot pot was delicious, and so was the kalguksu—this was Widaehan Jogae Jeongol, a great spot near Daejeon University.
