Hapjeong Korean BBQ date with grilled kimchi and somaek: Ijjok

In short

Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal is a pork belly restaurant in a basement space near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. Visiting for a dinner date, the writer ordered the 2–3 person set, ate pork belly grilled tableside by the owner topped with kimchi seared on the grill, paired it with somaek (soju-beer mix), and finished off the complimentary doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and steamed egg down to the last bite. A satisfying pick for anyone who wants to talk and eat without worrying about the grill.

Wandering around Hapjeong on a date, trying to figure out what to eat for dinner, we landed on this Hapjeong pork belly spot!

On a date, nothing beats good meat with a glass of soju or beer, right?

This time the meat was grilled for us, so we could just relax and eat — and it turned out way tastier than I expected :)

The real highlight was the kimchi grilled together with the meat. If you love pork belly, you won't be able to resist this combo…🔥

Great vibe at this Hapjeong Station meat restaurant

The sign practically shouts "It's this way~! This way!!" and it already set a great mood.

From the moment we walked in, instead of the usual chaotic BBQ-restaurant energy, it had a calm, easy-to-eat-in feel — I liked that a lot.

So personally, I think it's great with friends, but it also works well as a Hapjeong date spot.

On BBQ dates, someone usually ends up stuck flipping meat the whole time, but here you don't have to worry about that at all.

The owner grills the meat for you, so we could just relax, talk, and eat — perfect for a date 🤍

The 2–3 person set and a bean sprout salad I'd never seen before

We went with the 2–3 person set! We eat a lot, so we figured we'd order more if it wasn't enough!

(But we got so full there was no need for extra orders 😅😅)

The signature bean sprout salad side dish

This bean sprout salad was something I'd never seen at a BBQ place before! It felt like Ijjok Samgyeopsal's own signature side dish.

Eaten with the meat, it's really refreshing and goes down so easily!

Time for somaek~~!

And here's the part I loved most — the owner grills the meat for you personally.

The doneness of the meat matters a surprising amount, and since the owner grills it perfectly for you, all you have to do is wait and eat.

Just watching the pork belly turn golden-brown on the grill was already making me hungry…😂

When the outside was browned and the inside stayed juicy — right at that perfect moment — I grabbed a piece and, wow… this is exactly why people go hunting for the best pork belly near Hapjeong Station.

The juices were still there and the rich, savory pork belly flavor really came through — I couldn't stop reaching for more.

Pork belly + grilled kimchi is a must

And the combo I enjoyed most here was pork belly with grilled kimchi.

They grill the kimchi right alongside the pork belly, and as it browns on the grill, the flavor gets so much deeper.

Take a well-grilled piece of pork belly, top it with the grilled kimchi… honestly, it's just so good.

The kimchi cuts right through the rich, fatty taste of the pork, so you keep reaching for more. Especially once the kimchi is cooked just enough to turn slightly tangy and savory, it pairs perfectly with the pork belly.

Personally, I found it way tastier eating the pork belly with grilled kimchi than eating it plain.

The complimentary doenjang jjigae and steamed egg tasted like the kind of thing that would make you polish off a whole bottle of soju!! (That's how good it was...)

I'd especially recommend this to anyone who wants pork belly on a date.

Since the meat is grilled for you, you don't have to worry about the cooking and can just relax and talk — great for pairing good meat with a drink.

Hapjeong already has so many great restaurants and date spots, but if you're stuck on what to have for dinner, pork belly is honestly a solid choice.

Especially if you want to properly enjoy good meat together with grilled kimchi, this place should satisfy.

Looking for a good BBQ restaurant near Hapjeong Station?

What I liked most about this visit was that the owner grilled the meat for us, so we could eat in comfort — and above all, the pork belly and grilled kimchi combo was truly delicious.

Take a bite of golden-grilled pork belly topped with kimchi, then follow it with a sip of somaek… it's exactly the kind of combo that makes you think, "Ah, this is happiness" 😂🍺

If you're looking for good pork belly in Hapjeong, or hunting for a Hapjeong Station BBQ restaurant, Hapjeong-dong samgyeopsal, or the best pork belly near Hapjeong Station, this place is worth a visit.

Also recommended if you want good meat while on a date! 🤍
