In short

Una Magok is a hitsumabushi (grilled eel rice bowl) restaurant on the first floor of K-Square Magok Tower 2, by Magongnaru Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Visiting with two young children, the writer called ahead to reserve a six-seat private room set up with two high chairs and ordered two small hitsumabushi sets at 32,000 won each. I was hunting for a good hitsumabushi spot near LG Arts Center Seoul in Magok when I ended up at Una Magok. I've had a lot of errands around this area lately, and before I knew it dinner time had rolled around. Eating with the kids meant thinking hard about both the menu and the space, and this tidy eel rice bowl specialist in Magok immediately came to mind.

Where is Una Magok, and how does parking work?

Una Magok sits on the first floor of K-Square Magok Tower 2, and from the entrance the black-toned interior already felt sleek and upscale.

There's a menu board at the entrance, so you can check out what's on offer before stepping in.

Inside, soft lighting and a wooden pillar accent in the middle of the hall created a calm mood. Clean enough to double as a great date-night restaurant in Magok — it really won me over.

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows you can see the Magok-dong restaurant street outside, so the space feels open rather than closed in. For anyone driving, the building offers up to 90 minutes of parking support, plenty of time for a meal.

Is the private room at Una Magok good for eating out with kids?

When you're eating out with kids, you naturally prefer a separate, enclosed space, right? I called ahead, and the staff kindly set us up with a six-seat private room plus two kids' chairs.

Thanks to that, we could eat comfortably with the kids without worrying about other diners, and the room even had its own floor-to-ceiling window that made the mood really pleasant.

We're seriously being treated like VIPs here

is basically what I said out loud — the service was that thoughtful. Ordering is simple too, done through a tablet right at the table.

What comes with the hitsumabushi set, and how do you eat it?

We ordered two of the small (小) hitsumabushi sets at ₩32,000 each and gave them a try.

Menu description for the small hitsumabushi set

The menu description said the sauce is simmered for over 10 hours using about 30 kinds of herbal ingredients, which built up my expectations before I'd even taken a bite.

There was a card explaining how to eat it for the best experience, and following it really let us enjoy the eel rice bowl in different ways.

Instructions on how to enjoy hitsumabushi

While waiting, I noticed a review-event scratch card on the table — worth trying for fun if you spot one too!

Before opening the lid, the table setting was already neat, with every side dish plated cleanly.

Wow... finally, the eel itself! There was a subtle charcoal aroma, and the seasoning wasn't too strong — exactly my taste.

I started by enjoying it as is, then later poured on ochazuke broth, and with a bit of wasabi added it was completely my style~! Cooking does take a little time though, so if you're really hungry, it's best to wait with some patience.

Dessert and the verdict on Una Magok

Once you finish the meal happily, they bring out green tea ice cream for dessert.

The rich green tea flavor with a light dusting of powder finished things off with a bittersweet, refreshing taste. Haha, the kids seemed to love it too, scraping their cups clean, which made me smile. Among eel restaurants in Magok, having private rooms fully equipped makes this one hard to beat for a work dinner or family gathering in Magok.

I have a feeling I'll be back again soon, next time I'm looking for a private-room restaurant in Magok to bring my parents to!
