Konkuk University Japanese restaurant with saucy mazesoba: Hekbap

Dinner with friends at Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch

We were hanging out at Children's Grand Park on a Saturday evening with friends and stopped by for dinner. The menu ranged from rice bowls to ramen to mazesoba, so everyone could pick what they wanted! Everything we ordered was delicious too, so we left super satisfied.

Come out Exit 2 of Konkuk University Station and just walk straight along the main road! It took about 4 minutes, so the accessibility from the station is really good.

It's on the 2nd floor, so you go up the stairs :)

How big is the dining room, and what is on the self-serve bar?

The place was way bigger and more comfortable than I expected! We visited around 7:30pm on a Saturday, and since it was a bit past peak mealtime, we got seated right away with no wait.

Inside the table drawer, spoons, chopsticks, tissues, and wet wipes were all ready to go ~

There was also a self-serve bar set up on one side! It was nice being able to grab whatever we needed while eating.

Even the aprons hanging on the wall were a nice touch!

What we ordered was the cube steak rice bowl, salmon rice bowl, mazesoba, and karai ramen! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share and try a bit of everything, and honestly all of them were tastier than expected.

The meat was tender, not tough at all, which made it delicious! The seasoning wasn't too strong either, so it was easy to eat with the rice. Eating the meat and rice together in one bite made it feel like a solid, filling meal.

The salmon rice bowl had no fishy taste at all, so it was great! Soy sauce was already drizzled on top, so I didn't need to dip it separately, which made it easy to eat. I also grabbed some wasabi from the self-serve bar and piled it on top of the salmon, and the sharp kick made it even more delicious. T.T

And the dish I enjoyed the most was the mazesoba! The toppings on top were generous, and it was moist rather than thick and gooey, which I liked even more. We ended up mixing in a bowl of white rice with it too, and the rice took on a whole different, delicious flavor haha.

The karai ramen had a spicy but deep-flavored broth, so even though I hadn't been drinking, it somehow felt like a hangover cure... The noodles weren't overcooked either, cooked just right to go with the broth! If you love ramen, I totally recommend the karai ramen.

Each table had instructions on how to eat each menu item deliciously, which was nice. Even for dishes I was trying for the first time, it was helpful to see how to eat them for the best flavor.

What to know before visiting Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch

Parking isn't available, so I'd recommend public transit over driving. Reservations are possible for groups of 5 or more, so if you're visiting as a group, book ahead!

Overall, Hekbap had a wide variety of dishes, so it was easy to pick and choose according to taste. Visiting with friends and sharing a bunch of dishes made it even more enjoyable. It seems like a good spot for a meal-up with friends if you're a student at Konkuk or Sejong University, and it also seemed fine for solo dining. If you want a hearty meal near Konkuk, I recommend Hekbap!
