These days a whole fried chicken usually costs a basic 20,000 won, but here a whole chicken is 9,900 won. Let me introduce Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong, a great-value chicken shop that nails both price and taste.

What kind of shop is Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong in Myeongmok Market?

Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong is a dakgangjeong shop inside Myeongmok Market, a 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Sagajeong Station. Myeongmok Market itself is packed with food stalls, an all-purpose place to grab side dishes, snacks, and groceries at good prices. And whenever I'm craving dakgangjeong, this is the shop I head to! It's so good — you should definitely visit.

Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong shows off a gorgeous color! Fried once for crispiness, then fried a second time to lock in the crunch, and coated in a sweet-spicy sauce that's basically magic for your taste buds — the visual alone makes you drool. This is the chicken spot near Sagajeong Station you'll get pulled into.

Besides dakgangjeong, which is my favorite menu item, Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong near Sagajeong Station also sells a whole fried chicken for 9,900 won. It's genuinely one of the best-value spots in Myeongmok Market — the price alone is enough to stop you in your tracks.

You can order the bone-in fried chicken for 9,900 won, or the old-style whole chicken for even less at 7,000 won. Chicken legs, a popular cut sold separately, come at reasonable prices too: 4 pieces for 6,000 won, 6 for 9,000 won, 8 for 12,000 won, 12 for 17,000 won. ⬇️

I ordered two medium-size dakgangjeong at 9,000 won each. You can choose from three sauce levels: mild, medium spicy, and spicy.

Once you order, they fry the dakgangjeong crisp right away and toss it well in the sauce before packing it up. They shake off every last bit of oil straight from the fryer before packing, so the crunch stays alive and it isn't greasy at all — really delicious.

The staff at Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong were kind too, packing consistent portions for each order and even weighing it to check. They pack it so generously you'd wonder if it's really okay to give that much — a satisfying, great-value snack. For reference, the medium size serves about 2 people and the large serves about 3–4, so pick your size accordingly.

As you enter Myeongmok Market, you'll see a big BYC sign on your right. This shop is right across from it, so it's easy to find. It takes about 10 minutes from ordering to pickup, so if you're pressed for time, order and pay ahead, then do a loop of the market while you wait. It's open daily from 11:00 to 22:00, so plan your visit around that.
