I visited Jungnang Dongbu Market. As Chuseok gets closer, a lot of people head to the market to stock up, right? I actually bought a Jungnang-sarang gift certificate at Seoul Pay Plus today too. Today I want to introduce Daroa Dongbu Market Branch, a grocery market inside it where you can buy chicken, burgers and bread all cheaply.

Where is Daroa Dongbu Market Branch in Jungnang?

Daroa Dongbu Market Branch is at 68 Jungnangcheon-ro 10-gil, 1st floor, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, inside Jungnang Dongbu Market. The sign doesn't light up, so you might walk right past it in the evening. But once you see the "Iroun Chicken ₩9,900" sign out front, it's hard to just keep walking. There are tables outside too, so you can eat there or wait for your order.

At the entrance there's a mouth-watering chicken model too. It's clearly a model, but when I got close I swear I smelled fried chicken, haha. Turned out it was just the savory oil smell wafting out from inside the store.

How do Daroa's member prices work?

At Daroa Dongbu Market Branch, scanning the in-store QR code to join the KakaoTalk open chat registers you as a member, letting you buy items at member prices. Daroa sells all kinds of items under the name "Iroun ○○" — chicken, burgers, bread, frozen food, snacks and more. Iroun Bread is 10 pieces for ₩10,000! The Daroa member price was ₩1,500 for 1, ₩4,000 for 3, ₩6,000 for 5. The more you buy, the cheaper it gets, so it's a great setup for picking out a variety of breads. The line "the more you take, the more iroun (beneficial) it is, and the taste is always iroun" really fit.

The ₩1,000 snack shelf at Daroa

In the "Iroun Dopamine" corner at Daroa Dongbu Market Branch, popular snacks these days were laid out at around ₩1,000 each. Strawberry mochi balls with strawberry filling ₩1,000, Dubai cotton candy chocolate ₩1,000, ube marshmallows ₩1,000, mala konjac ₩1,000. The mala konjac even came in several types, from spicy and mild to tom yum flavor and sesame flavor.

They also sell organic products and drinks. 100% organic pressed lemon juice ₩3,000, Italian organic oil ₩9,900, event drink ₩1,000. The prices aren't a burden at all, so if there's something you need, it's worth browsing while you wait for your chicken.

Frozen meals from ₩1,900 at Daroa

For frozen food, bone soup and Sindaejang tteokbokki were ₩3,000, while beef doenjang rice and beef seaweed soup were ₩1,900. The frozen food prices were so low I wanted to buy several, but I had somewhere else to stop by so I held off that day. Checking the group chat later, I saw they sometimes sell even cheaper than the member price. Like a group-buy market, you can order in the chat and pick up in store, so I'm going to watch for the next discount, haha.

Free gifts by purchase amount at Daroa

That day, spending over ₩10,000 got you real pineapple sorbet as a freebie. Throwing in a free perk on top of a ₩10,000 purchase — pretty generous, right? Freebies and discounted items may change depending on when you visit, so check in store or in the group chat.

Back home for chimaek (chicken and beer)! Daroa Dongbu Market Branch's Iroun Chicken is ₩9,900, and the seasoned chicken I bought was ₩10,900. A whole chicken for about ten thousand won — literally ten-thousand-won happiness.

It's boneless chicken, so I liked that I didn't need to pick out any bones — easy eating. The sauce wasn't spicy, so it'd be fine for kids too. They also have soy sauce chicken and gochujang mayo chicken, so I want to try other flavors next time. Considering the price, it's really unbeatable value.

₩3,500 egg cheese bulgogi and crunchy corn burgers

I tried the Iroun burgers along with the chicken too. Egg cheese bulgogi ₩3,500, crunchy corn ₩3,500. The cheapest burger starts at ₩2,000, and adding ₩3,500 lets you pick a side and a drink too. Just like the chicken, the burgers had solid value for the price.

I cut one in half with scissors to check inside. The egg cheese bulgogi had a fried egg in it, and I liked that the yolk was cooked soft.

The crunchy corn burger was packed with popping corn kernels, which made for a fun texture. The two burgers had a similar base, but the egg and corn gave them a clearly different bite. After some deliberation I picked these two, but I'd like to try other kinds next time.

Sharing Iroun Bread with my child

The bread came as a freebie. I got to try several kinds — soboro red bean bread, peanut cream bread, and gukhwappang (chrysanthemum-shaped bread). The bread was reliably tasty too, and my kid and I enjoyed it as a snack.
