Gyuen Dang, whose original branch is in Seongsu, has now opened a location near Seolleung Station too. It's just a 3-4 minute walk from Seolleung Station, and it's already causing a stir for its gyukatsu (fried beef cutlet). Gyukatsu makes a great unusual dining option even with a 17-month-old!

Why we chose Gyuen Dang for lunch after Seonjeongneung

After a little field trip to Seonjeongneung with our 17-month-old, we headed to Gyuen Dang for lunch — it's only about a 7-minute walk from Seonjeongneung. Gyukatsu is fried beef, so it's a great dining-out choice with a little one too.

Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is already known as a place with waits, packed with customers. The menu is full of unusual dishes — gyukatsu, omurice, rice bowls, curry, and more.

After years in the beef business, Gyuen Dang ultimately settled on the brazier as its style. Grilling beef neatly over a small fire yourself — gyukatsu is a dish that's long been beloved among Koreans.

Gyuen Dang has a good variety of table seating. There are solo seats too, of course. If your party is 3 or more, definitely reserve a table through Naver in advance.

It had really been a while since I'd had gyukatsu. I chose it because I wanted to show my kid the whole process of cooking food over fire, up close.

Gyuen Dang, with its tidy table setting, has already earned a solid reputation starting from its Seongsu original branch. It turns a casual everyday dish into something more special, making it a fine choice for a meal out.

Tenderloin vs sirloin: grilling gyukatsu on the tabletop brazier

We ordered both the tenderloin and sirloin cuts. The sirloin definitely had a stronger, more distinct beefy aroma.

You grill it sizzling on the plate yourself, cooking it to your preferred doneness. If I hadn't had the baby with me, I probably would've grilled just a couple of pieces at a time, but in reality it was a battle — I ended up loading the brazier full and grilling away nonstop. Haha.

French Isigny butter is fantastic for baking, and having it as a side here made the meal even more satisfying. Butter burns fast at high heat, so just add a small amount to lightly infuse the aroma — that's enough.

What it's like eating at Gyuen Dang with a 17-month-old

My kid poked at the food with a fork, taking little tastes. If you visit Gyuen Dang, baby tableware is fully provided. Gyukatsu is a dish you eat for the meat's own soft, juicy texture, so it's easy to feed to kids too.

Both the sirloin and tenderloin have just the right amount of marbling, so they stay juicy inside once grilled. Pair it with salt, wasabi, and sauce for a perfectly harmonious bite.

This was our 17-month-old's first time trying gyukatsu as a dining-out dish. My spouse was also trying gyukatsu for the first time, and seemed pleasantly surprised.

Trust Coffee: a café 2 minutes away after lunch

After the meal, we checked out a café packed with people about 2 minutes' walk from Gyuen Dang. A search on Naver told us it was called Trust Coffee. The caffe latte was ₩4,300, and the latte art was pretty along with genuinely good coffee. Indoor seating is limited, but the coffee quality makes it feel worth it. If you're a latte lover, definitely stop by.
