Gangnam private-room Japanese dinner for wedding invites: Momiji

A wedding-invitation gathering is a chance to invite people I love and ask them to be with me on one of the most important days of my life, so the restaurant atmosphere mattered a lot.

I wanted a space where we could talk comfortably, with food that would satisfy us too. Somewhere too loud felt burdensome, but I also didn’t want a place with a nice atmosphere and disappointing food.

In that sense, Momiji Seolleung Branch was a pretty satisfying choice. It was close to Seolleung Station, so it was easy to meet up, and every seat was a private room, which made it nice to bring up important things. Most of all, even though it is an izakaya, the portions were generous enough for a full dinner, and everyone I went with said the food was delicious—honestly, I felt so proud as the person who picked the place 🤍

It is only a three-minute walk from Exit 2 of Seolleung Station, so it is convenient for groups arriving by public transport. Especially when making plans with coworkers or acquaintances after work, being close to Seolleung Station was a real plus. It was easy to explain where it was, and getting around after the gathering did not feel like a hassle either.

Dedicated parking is a little difficult, though. If anyone is driving, it is safer to check nearby paid parking in advance.

What I liked most when choosing this place was the private seating setup. Since every seat is presented as a room, we could spend time without worrying too much about conversations or looks from neighboring tables.

It is an izakaya, but the presentation feels more like a neat Japanese restaurant?

A wedding-invitation gathering is not just a meal, you know. You need to catch up with people you have not seen in a while and naturally bring up wedding plans, but in a loud open bar, there comes a moment when you wonder… can we actually do that here? So a space where we could focus on conversation was so, so much more comfortable.

It would work well for a company dinner or a date too, but having been there myself, I especially thought it was perfect for occasions where conversation matters.

A generous meal, from assorted sashimi to futomaki

Momiji Seolleung Branch is an izakaya where you can enjoy Japanese dishes centered on sashimi and yakitori (grilled skewers). When you think of an izakaya, it is easy to assume the food is mostly for drinking and might not be enough for a meal, but the portions here were more generous than I expected. Once we ordered several dishes and shared them, we did not even need to add another meal.

As soon as we arrived, we ordered assorted sashimi and Nagasaki udon nabe (hot pot)! The small assorted sashimi was not small at all… It was really well put together, and the sashimi quality was excellent.

The castella-style rolled omelet, konowata (salted sea cucumber innards), and tako wasabi (wasabi-seasoned octopus) sides were all excellent too.

They also included plenty of delicious cuts of tuna, so everyone I invited that day was very happy!

Because a wedding-invitation gathering is one where I am inviting people, I would have worried if there had not been enough food—but I did not need to worry about that here. I also liked that even people who do not drink much could enjoy the food itself 😇

You can enjoy a range of Japanese dishes here, including seasonal assorted sashimi, sweet shrimp with uni, yakitori, and nabe dishes. One of the signature dishes, the small seasonal assorted sashimi, was ₩55,000 and such a great deal..!!

If you order a clean starter like sashimi, shareable dishes like yakitori, and filling food like nabe together, the spread becomes much more varied for a group. If you like covering the table with several dishes rather than focusing on just one and sharing little bits of everything, you will probably be very satisfied.

As we ate, everything on the menu was so delicious that we also ordered futomaki (thick sushi rolls) as part of the meal, and the portion was seriously huge.

Can you see how thick the omelet and sashimi fillings are…? It was almost hard to fit in my mouth.

There was so much of it that three of us ate until we were full and still had leftovers.

Why it worked so well for a wedding-invitation gathering

When preparing a wedding-invitation gathering, food is quietly one of the biggest things to worry about. Even if it tastes good to me, it would linger in my mind if the people I brought did not like it… But there was less to worry about here. I enjoyed it too, but what pleased me most was that the people I invited were the first to say the food was delicious.

It was not merely good enough as bar food; it was substantial enough for a meal, and the portions let us eat generously overall. For a gathering where you want your guests to feel looked after, like when giving out wedding invitations, that was a really big advantage 🥹

There are so many delicious places when you search for restaurants in Seolleung. But once you add private rooms as a requirement, the choices shrink dramatically. Strangely, there are not many places that offer both..

Momiji Seolleung Branch stands out because all its seats are presented as private rooms. That made it easy to keep talking without worrying about the next table, and it felt much less burdensome when handing over invitations or sharing personal stories.

If you do not need an ultra-formal fine-dining restaurant but want a space that is a little more comfortable and separate than a regular bar, this place seems like a great fit.

Personally, the three things I remember most are the private rooms, generous portions, and delicious food. When a place has rooms but disappointing food, or great food but is too noisy, you hesitate to choose it for an important appointment, right? Momiji Seolleung Branch delivered evenly on all three, so I was highly satisfied with it for a wedding-invitation gathering.

Seolleung is an easy neighborhood for making plans because transportation is convenient and there are lots of offices. But because there are so many restaurants, it is also an area where you end up wondering even more where to go haha.

If you are looking all at once for a good Seolleung restaurant, a Seolleung private-room restaurant, a Seolleung izakaya, and a venue for a wedding-invitation gathering, Momiji Seolleung Branch is worth comparing. It is a three-minute walk from Exit 2 of Seolleung Station, offers private rooms for comfortable conversation, and has portions generous enough for a full dinner despite being an izakaya. Most of all, getting “this is delicious” reactions from everyone who came with me was huge.

For anyone like me who is about to get married and looking for a place to give wedding invitations to acquaintances, I hope you look beyond just famous Seolleung restaurants and consider accessibility, whether there are rooms, the quantity and taste of the food, and how satisfied your guests will be. By those standards, this was a lovely place to eat comfortably and talk with important people.
