Gwangja cocktail bar in Seoul where you pick tonight's purpose: Woowoo
In short
Woowoo is a solo-drinking cocktail bar near Gwangja Station in Gwangjin, Seoul, where you check in at the door and choose your purpose for the night. Over the signature Woowoo cocktail and a cinnamon orange snack, the writer ended up playing games with people met for the first time. Even on a first visit alone, Woowoo keeps things low-key enough to join in naturally.

How to find Woowoo from Gwangja Station Exit 8
Come out of Gwangja Station Exit 8, turn left, go straight up, then cross to the next block and you're at Woowoo! It's on the 2nd floor of the building with a Mega Coffee, and the Woowoo sign outside made it easy to spot. But isn't the name Woowoo just so cute, lol.

Go up the stairs at the front to the 2nd floor and you'll see a door that says Woowoo Open! It was my first time at a solo-drinking bar so I was nervous, and my friend and I had a whole thing about who'd go in first, lol.
Inside Woowoo: dim lighting and a vintage mood
The vibe was so good the moment we walked in. The overall lighting is pretty low, but each table has its own lamp, and I liked that soft glow even more, haha. The tables run in a long row so a lot of people can sit together! Overall it felt vintage yet upscale — exactly my kind of atmosphere 🖤 Bummed the photos couldn't fully capture the mood, ugh.
On one side, the liquors used for making drinks were all lined up, and there were so many kinds! Fun to just look at the colorful bottles too, lol.
How Woowoo works: checking in and choosing tonight's purpose

Once you sit down, you check in like this first! Then you read a short guide on how things work and enter some basic info about yourself — and I liked that you get to choose today's goal here! Whether you want to sit quietly alone, or chat with new people, you pick what you're into. Since you can choose the mood based on your mood that day, it felt low-pressure even coming alone. And you can also get a free cocktail by completing quests, lol. These little extras were such a nice touch.

Drinks ranged from whiskey to cocktails to beer, and they even had non-alcoholic cocktails! Snacks kept it simple with cheese crackers, pinapple, and cinnamon orange. And outside food is allowed too!! I liked that if you're hungry, you can just bring your own food to eat together.
After debating what to order, since it was our first time, I figured we should try the signature cocktail, lol. We ordered two glasses of the signature Woowoo cocktail plus the cinnamon orange. 🍸🍊
Right after ordering, the manager got to work making them. When I said I was filming, he suddenly started shaking it even harder, which was hilarious. Getting to watch the cocktail-making process made the wait fun too.

Signature cocktail Woowoo, a cherry-peach pour
Finally, the signature Woowoo cocktail arrived 🍸 Isn't that red color just gorgeous...❤️ The sweet-tart cherry-peach flavor hits first, with a subtle kick of alcohol coming through after. Eating it with the sugar rimming the glass added extra sweetness, and the combo worked really well! Signature status: confirmed 👍

It felt like a shame to just drink, so we also ordered the cinnamon orange! 🍊 They slice a whole orange and sprinkle cinnamon on top — apparently this became famous after celebrities were seen eating it, lol. The cinnamon aroma paired surprisingly well with the tangy orange, and it was great to pick at while sipping cocktails! The crackers aren't normally on the menu, but the manager threw them in as a bonus on his own — heh 🤭
Playing games with strangers at Woowoo

We came early so it wasn't crowded at first, but people trickled in as time went on. As more people showed up, we naturally started chatting, and it got more and more fun, lol. In daily life you rarely get to talk this comfortably with total strangers. Chatting with new people was oddly fun, and I fully got the appeal of solo-drinking bars, haha. The tables were also positioned close enough but not too close when seated across from each other, which made conversation feel easy, not awkward.

There were also various simple games on the tables so there was never a dull moment, lol. Once someone started a game, everyone naturally joined in, and we hit it off with strangers pretty quickly. Some people came alone, some came with friends like us, and a lot of them were around my age! We got close fast and before we knew it, we were all hanging out together, haha.
At the end, the owner even made us his own special cocktail on the house! It had a hint of lemon and was so refreshing, honestly delicious. Not sure if it's on the regular menu, but if you're curious, just ask the owner, lol.

As the night went on, my friend who came with me started looking increasingly unwell, lol. I laughed watching her lose it, but honestly I wasn't in much of a position to talk...^^ Anyway, we both laughed and chatted nonstop — such a fun day. 🫠
- Easy to visit alone or with friends without pressure
- An atmosphere that makes chatting and mingling feel natural
- The owner kept checking in and took care of anything we needed
I was a little worried since it was my first solo-drinking bar, but the owner helped everyone mingle naturally, and the vibe wasn't over the top, so I could just relax and enjoy it! It also helped that most people there were in their 20s and 30s, so it felt easygoing, haha. If you want to chat with new people or want a place where you can enjoy yourself comfortably even alone, I'd recommend Woowoo, a Gwangja solo-drinking bar!
