Gunja Station dinner date: egg roll and bone grill at Saechamjip

I wanted a good Korean-style drink night with hearty anju (drinking snacks), so I went to Saechamjip near Gunja Station. There are tons of bars around here, but this time I skipped the usual snack spots and went for Saechamjip, a proper Korean pub.

Saechamjip is on the 2nd floor. At a lot of bars these days the tables are so close together you can hear the neighboring table's conversation, but here each table has some breathing room, which I really appreciated.

The music and the whole cozy bar atmosphere weren't chaotic either — more like everyone's at a festival together, haha!

Nutty-tasting water and a hangover-relief jelly

The water they serve isn't plain water — it seemed to be heotgae water (Hovenia dulcis tea), which had a faintly nutty taste like nurungji (scorched rice). It was cool with a subtle sweetness, which made the soju go down even easier, and I ended up drinking more water too.

They also gave us a hangover-relief jelly stick along with it, which was a nice touch. Great attention to detail right from the start.

Even the basic side dishes were nicely done!

Mentaiko mayo giant egg roll — ₩13,900

The mentaiko mayo giant egg roll was moist and soft, seriously generous in portion, and not salty at all! You'd expect bar food to be all salty and intense, but Saechamjip's egg roll tasted like a delicious homemade side dish — you could taste the mentaiko, mayo, and egg coming together beautifully.

I ate every last bite of that egg roll happily. ₩13,900 for that much food, plus rice for another ₩500 — the value is insane.

Stone-plate bone grill — ₩25,900

The stone-plate bone grill came out first and it looked amazing right away. Watching the food sizzle on the hot stone plate made it look so appetizing, and I loved that it stayed warm for a long time.

It comes out bubbling hot on the stone plate!

We dug in like crazy before it could cool down. The meat was super tender, seasoned evenly all the way through, and it went perfectly with rice — a perfect drinking snack too.

Eating it with baek-mukeunji (white aged kimchi) added that tangy, deep flavor of aged kimchi that paired really well with the meat.

Cass ice draft beer — ₩3,300

The drinks really flow easily here. If the stone-plate bone grill is rich and heavy, the egg roll is light and mild, so ordering both together made for a great combo.

Seating that works for both dinner dates and group gatherings

One of my favorite things about Saechamjip was how spacious it is, with a variety of seating options. It's great for 2-4 people to chat comfortably over drinks, but the vibe also works well for bigger group gatherings.

Delicious anju and drinks from start to finish, sipping that nutty water in between, and even a hangover-relief jelly to send us off!! It definitely made the drinking session feel a lot easier to enjoy. From dates to relaxed chats with friends — I recommend Saechamjip.
