Family dinner with jokbal near Myeongil Station: Iseon Hwaduk Jokbal

Hi everyone~ this is Kim Seon-saeng from Cheotkki. I can make bossam at home, but jokbal is still one dish I haven't mastered, so I end up ordering it delivered pretty often. This time I found a tasty jokbal place near Myeongil Station that roasts it in a wood-fired oven, Iseon Hwaduk Jokbal Bossam, so I went with my family~

It's right near Myeongil Station, so access is really convenient.

Where to park

If you're driving, there's a sign saying 3 spots are available right in front of the restaurant~ You can also park in the building's underground lot. It fits a total of 5 cars, and when I went there was 1 spot left.. but the entrance felt a bit narrow and scary~ (for safety, I'd recommend taking public transportation instead)

Inside the restaurant and the menu

There are 2 outdoor terrace seats. With weather like this... a cool breeze blowing and not too hot, eating outside seemed pretty nice too!

There's plenty of seating inside too~ some slightly private seats with partitions, and some open seating~

What we ordered

Jokbal and bossam are the main menu items. I really wanted the half-and-half option... (half-and-half lets you mix jokbal, cold salad, and bossam together, which is nice.) But today I decided I was only going to demolish jokbal, so I ordered one medium jokbal haha (I'd already eaten lunch at 3pm.. and here I was again for dinner at 6pm;;;)

Besides jokbal, bossam, and cold salad, there's also assorted whelk stew, clam soup, and a whole octopus dish. Sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew), rice balls, makguksu (buckwheat noodles), and steamed egg are on the side menu. There's also dried pollock, gorgonzola pizza, grilled pollock roe, canned peaches, and pine sherbet~

Taste review

The basic banchan get set out first, and after that you use the self-serve bar! The chive salad was delicious~ All the other side dishes were good too, but the jokbal itself was so good you could just eat that alone, honestly haha

Crispy outside, tender inside — genuinely delicious! Certified good jokbal in Gangdong 👍👍👍 It was so good I regretted ordering the medium instead of the large. I felt like I could've finished the large too. The soju just kept flowing~ There was zero smell, and the meat was so tender it was perfect for kids to eat too! I don't think anyone could possibly choke on it haha

At the end, you've got to pick up the bone and tear the meat off — that's the real way to enjoy it~ Doesn't it look like a pretty flower shape? haha We weren't even that hungry since it was so filling, but we finished the jokbal completely, not a scrap left.. (proud of myself haha)

The complimentary gorgonzola pizza and sundubu-jjigae

The owner gave us gorgonzola pizza and sundubu-jjigae on the house ㅜㅜ Even though it was free, it was so good! The gorgonzola pizza was great for the kids, and the sundubu-jjigae was the perfect soju pairing alongside the jokbal~ (my daughter polished off the whole gorgonzola pizza by herself in no time haha)

While we were eating, a lot of delivery orders kept coming in and quite a few takeout customers came by too... it seems to be a well-known jokbal spot near Myeongil Station.
