Karai sauce monjayaki with a crispy bottom in Mullae, Seoul: Jojo
In short
Jojo Mullae Branch is a teppanyaki Japanese restaurant on Dorim-ro 139-gil near Mullae Art Village in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, where every seat has its own hot plate so you watch the cooking right in front of you. On a weekday evening visit, the monjayaki (savory griddle pancake) 2-person set cost 39,500 won with cheese and mochi added, finished with the karai (spicy) sauce from the table caddy. The mentaiko monjayaki tasted best where the spicy sauce met the crispy scorched bottom, and the seasoning never got too salty.

Last time I had okonomiyaki in Yeonnam, and I got really curious about monjayaki too! I went to Mullae and saw Jojo was there, so I thought, why not try monjayaki? So I visited haha.

Is there a wait at Jojo on a weekday evening?
So this supposedly delicious monjayaki... let me try it myself 🤤 I visited on a weekday evening and there was no wait! But I heard there's often a wait even on weekdays, so booking through Naver Reservation if you can isn't a bad idea.

Choosing between the two 2-person sets at Jojo
At Jojo Mullae Branch you can order okonomiyaki, monjayaki, and yakisoba individually, but if you're visiting with two people, I recommend picking either the Signature 2-person set for ₩39,000 or the Monjayaki 2-person set for ₩39,500! With yakisoba you can also choose the flavor, which is even better..❤️

I read the instructions on how to eat it carefully, and later found out that if you leave a Naver receipt review, you can get a drink too!! When you're craving something other than alcohol, drinking a soda from the review event is a nice option too.

A hot plate at every seat and three table sauces
One nice thing about Jojo is that every seat has its own hot plate, so you can watch the food being made right in front of you. If a dish can't share the plate with something else you ordered, it comes out on a well-insulated plate instead, so no need to worry!

On the table there are extra sauces you can add — in order, mayonnaise, teriyaki, and karai (spicy) sauce!

Mentaiko monjayaki with cheese and mochi added
Got a shot of the little scraper(?) for monjayaki too. I added mochi and cheese to the mentaiko (pollack roe) monjayaki!! After trying it, I'd recommend adding cheese for sure, and mochi is nice too but you don't necessarily need it.
Monjayaki, unlike okonomiyaki, is a runnier flour batter combined with finely chopped cabbage! So it's spread thin on the hot plate and eaten by scraping it up with that spatula-scraper thing I got earlier — that's its whole deal haha.

Personally, it was way, way tastier with the spicy sauce drizzled on than eating it plain! And eating the crispy bits that stuck to the bottom was really good too. Also, you have to flip the mochi once and eat it once it goes soft and chewy, otherwise it's a bit off-putting.

How the Jojo karai yakisoba compares
And among the set menu, the Jojo karai yakisoba had a stronger spicy kick and less saltiness than what I've had at other branches! The distinctively chewy noodles are always the tasty part of this dish. Like the monjayaki, I liked that the seasoning at Jojo Mullae Branch wasn't too heavy!!

Waterfall potato at Jojo Mullae Branch
And the last dish, Waterfall Potato! You mash the soft-boiled egg well and mix it in. Being a cool, refreshing dish, it went really well after the monjayaki — cool and nutty at the same time!! The garlic flakes in particular were the real MVP 🤤
