Yuzu beef tartare and plum highball: Dangsan izakaya Snack Bar Atashi

In short

Snack Bar Atashi is a Japanese-style izakaya between Dangsan and Seonyudo stations in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, with almost all counter seating that feels like a local bar in Japan. Over a plum highball, the meal ran through the yuzu yukhoe (raw beef tartare) and flounder set, kani miso crab shell gratin, flounder salt gimbap (seaweed rice roll) and spicy seafood yaki udon. The easy-drinking plum highball and warm bar snacks make Snack Bar Atashi a good pick for a date or a drink after work.

Snack Bar Atashi: an izakaya between Dangsan and Seonyudo stations

Exterior of Snack Bar Atashi Dangsan branch, giving off a Japanese back-alley feel

I visited Atashi, a Japanese-style izakaya located between Dangsan and Seonyudo stations. Even the exterior gave off the vibe of a tiny bar tucked into a Japanese back alley, so I was already excited before I even walked in haha.

Atashi's sign softly lit up at night

At night the sign lights up softly, which makes the atmosphere even better — it seemed like the perfect place to swing by for a casual drink after work.

Inside Atashi, arranged mostly with counter seating

Counter seats only, almost — how big a group fits?

The inside of Snack Bar Atashi is made up mostly of standing-bar counter seats, giving it the feel of a real local izakaya in Japan. It has a cozy, face-to-face atmosphere that would work well for a date or blind date. There's only one table for four, so if you're coming with a group, I'd recommend booking ahead ☺️

Storage basket under the counter seats

There are baskets under the counter seats for storing your things, which made it easy to tuck away bags or belongings. This kind of small touch let me relax through the meal without worrying about my stuff ☺️

Suntory highball 2+1 at Snack Bar Atashi

Atashi has been selected as one of Suntory's '100 Great Highball Spots' for two years running! They're also running a Suntory highball 2+1 promotion, so I'd definitely recommend having at least one highball 🤍

Yuzu beef tartare and flounder set: they ask how you want it

The yuzu raw flounder set. The raw flounder had a subtle yuzu aroma that made it taste fresh and clean. When I ordered, staff asked whether I wanted the raw fish lightly seared, which I appreciated — it's a nice touch that lets you choose according to your taste ☺️

Kani miso crab shell gratin, scooped onto crackers

Crab roe gratin 🦀🤍 The crab shell was filled with something rich and creamy, making it a great pairing for drinks! It came out piping hot and stayed delicious to the last bite — if you visit Atashi, I'd recommend giving this one a try ☺️

Piled onto the crackers that came with it, the crispy texture made it an even better match!

One drink per person: the plum highball for light drinkers

At Atashi, ordering one drink per person is required 🍶 (non-alcoholic options work too, just so you know!). I had the plum highball that day — the gentle sweetness of the plum kept the alcohol taste from being too strong, so even I, who normally can't handle much alcohol, could enjoy it without any pressure ☺️ If you like highballs, give the plum highball a try along with the snacks!

Ordering the flounder salt gimbap on the side

You can also order salt gimbap (seaweed rice roll) on the side 🍙 — theirs comes with the trendy flounder version! Eating it alongside the raw flounder made for an interesting combo rather than having the fish on its own ☺️ Getting to enjoy the trendy salt gimbap on top of everything else felt like two birds with one stone ✨

Ending with spicy seafood yaki udon

It felt a little early to stop there, so we ordered spicy seafood yakiudon to finish 🍜 It was loaded with seafood, giving it a great chewy bite, and the spicy sauce made it a perfect match for drinks. We polished off even the last dish and ended the night on a happy note!

Follow on Instagram for a house sake welcome drink

They're also running an Instagram follow event! Follow Atashi's Instagram and you can get a free house sake welcome drink. If you visit, it's a quick thing to do, so make sure to grab your welcome drink too ☺️

Counter table set with snacks and a highball

Thanks to the great food and atmosphere, I left with only good memories ☺️🤍 There are still dishes on the menu I want to try, so next time I'm definitely getting the chicken nanban with tartar sauce and the clam butter steamed dish! If you want a drink with delicious snacks in a cozy, Japan-like atmosphere, I'd recommend Atashi in Dangsan ✨
