Why frizzy hair sent me to a Gangnam Station hair salon for a layered recovery perm
My hair got damaged over the summer, I think, because it was just dry and frizzy on its own, and my old perm had faded, leaving it looking messy.
So before Chuseok, I took a half-day off and visited a Gangnam Station hair salon known for its layered perms.

Head down to the basement floor of the building you see here and you'll find Koara Haircare Gangnam, a total design salon with Gangnam-style sensibility. It's run together with Pink Age Gangnam and apparently handles everything from hair extensions to styling design professionally.
It also covers layered cuts, volume magic, recovery care, down perms, iron perms — all kinds of designs customized to the client.

Inside Koara Haircare Gangnam: salon atmosphere and the products used
Inside the salon I could see proven premium products like L'Oréal, Mucota, and Dermaheal on display, so it was clear right away that this Gangnam Station hair salon really cares about hair condition.
Inside the salon there were spacious chairs and tables set up for waiting and convenience.
There were also plenty of treatment seats, so this Gangnam Station hair salon felt roomy and unhurried.
I visited by appointment and arrived a bit early, so I waited a while.
Before: frizzy hair with the curl gone after a cut
Before the treatment started, I took some before photos too. Maybe because of a previous haircut, all the curl was gone and my hair looked even more frizzy. So I decided to go with the layered recovery perm, which is gentler on damaged hair.
Before the treatment began they also prepared drinks and snacks for me, and since I'd come without eating lunch, I got to fill up a little on snacks — nice haha.
How the layered recovery perm was done, step by step
I got my recovery perm from Director Koara of Koara Haircare Gangnam. My first impression of her was really good, and on top of that she had such bright energy that the whole treatment felt great haha. First she carefully applied a protein treatment, then did the recovery magic straightening to tame the frizz in my hair. Her hands were so meticulous and quick that the treatment flew by.
Then she added curls at the ends of my hair to build volume. After neutralizing the perm, she also gave me aromatherapy care — a short session, but a brief moment of relaxation, and that thoughtful touch was one of the things I loved about Koara Haircare Gangnam.

It's calmer now, and with the curl still alive at the ends adding volume, doesn't it look even more put-together? I got a perm, but why does my hair look even healthier now..? Wild.
She also showed me how to style it, and with this layered recovery perm being so low-maintenance while still giving off a styled look, even someone hopeless with hair like me could pull it off nicely.
